Old JO Waldner Banda - Worth the time and effort?

Just take a step back and look at the small head on these blades.
Really weird. But they work.

I actually am tempted to bid on this one too..

If I "shave" the wings of this blade and gently sand down the inside of the wing towards the head, to generate a slope, a thinner overall handle towards the head, then reglue the wings. This making the handle more modern, cant affect the eventual retail value that much? Can it?

I am not sure. I would only try that with that blade if you did have two. It would be heart rending if you tried it, it didn't work well and made the blade play worse and have funny shaped head and neck.

Oh, interesting. I have always heard the term wings to refer to the part of the blade face that does not have rubber that is between the rubber and the handle winging out from the handle. But if you just make the handle a different shape that might be different.

And your woodworking skills are good enough to do that and come out with a finished, even product? That is kind of cool. I would mess everything up if I tried to reshape the handle.

Thing is, and I feel like such:

... the Banda is not like any other blade Ive tried. So increadably happy you guys told me to give it a go.
My game has really jumped a pinhole or 3.. I thaught to myself after todays training: This is what the pro's must feel when they get their blades to their specs.. (exept theirs is lighter with bigger heads.. ;) )

Such a great blade. Every part of the game got easier. There is more control AND higher speed by quite a bit! There is less effort needed to keep the ball in play when away from the table. Its some sort of magic.. The Rakza's really loved this blade...

Hope to have 2 Bandas by the end of the day.. (with a bit of luck..)

It will be interesting to see how the Kjell Johansson plays.

I think what you are feeling has something to do with what caused me to try the OSP blades. Their old fashioned blade making techniques and their hand selection of woods seems to duplicate that old classic blade feel. Crisp, big crunch, lots of dwell time, a ton of spin and control and you can customize the specs on the racket.

With all the blades I got from them I specified, head size, handle, blade weight. And one blade they made me, I chose a ply combination that they don't offer in their available models. And they laminated the plies and made the blade for me.

It is interesting how different things are when you can order the exact details you want and the blade is only made after you order it.

Plus, I have noticed, as these blades age, they play better and the feeling actually increases.

Well, the Banda and the Johansson are the real thing. I don't know that you need a blade made today that is made like the old time blades that were good. But I do love the 4 OSP blades I have.
