I was wondering, when you buy blades at paddlepalace.com, do the blades come sealed for you already? or is that something you must do on your own?

They used to have that option. I just checked to see if I could see it. But I didn't. I may not have looked well. But, you could call them and ask. I have called them before to get them to weigh blades and give me the weight I wanted.

I personally would rather seal the blade myself because I know how to do a good job and the sealant I use is most likely better than what they use. My bet is that they use a water based sealant. I use MinWax Wipe-On Poly. You just use one thin layer and it is really good. You wipe it on with a cloth so you won't make the coating too thick.

What's the difference between using regular clear coat seal and just thinning it yourself with mineral spirits? Is MinWax Wipe-On Poly completely different?

It might be very similar. I am not sure. I don't think it is anything too special. I do think it is just thinned Poly sealant so that you can wipe it on. But I really don't know.

One of the things I like about wipe on is it doesn't just stay on the surface. It sinks in and looks like the wood was brushed with oil rather than sealed. So it is a tiny bit in the wood but not on top of the wood. Often when you seal with stuff that is thicker, it leaves a coat of poly that is over the wood. So wipe on poly really doesn't change the playing characteristics. It would be interesting to see if you could get the same results from thinning a regular poly finish.

But, the last can of wipe on that I got did a few hundred blades and lasted almost for years before it dried and got too thick to use and I was pretty okay with spending $5.00 to get a new one.

If I remember correctly during the checkout process a check box appears to indicate if you want your blade seal or not...

I looked for that. I went right before the part where I give credit card info to pay. Maybe I missed it. But I remember that used to be the case. And I did not see it when I checked.

I know megaspin has the option to have your blade sealed. But they also have different sellers (for example: butterfly rubber might be sold by one company through their site and joola would be sold through someone else through their site) so I'm sure whatever brand you buy your blade from would seal differently than another brand.

Tabletennis11 does a good job at sealing. Why don't you try that? I bought from them once, and I was impressed by their job.
If anyone has bought from both tt11 and megaspin, please tell which has been better seller. I am thinking of buying some equipments in some time.

I plan on buying from Megaspin as i plan on buying a butterfly product. Tabletennis11 is not allowed to sell butterfly products to the U. S. As for tabletennis11, i have ordered from them 3 times already. Their service is great and their products come in a great condition. The only sad thing is that shipping takes a while. For me, about 2 weeks.

Well yes, they don't sell butterfly products outside estonia. Hence megaspin will be a good option.
