Next time you see him, just call him Jonny Hustle because he ran a hustle on you to get you to bet your lunch money.

There is this guy who is a well known pro. When he was a kid (this is 30+ years ago, so the dollar figures meant more back then) he would go some place and bet the best player a dollar and play a game. Back then games were also played to 21. He would win the first game 21-19 and get the guy to go double or nothing. And he would win 25-23. And he would keep going till the kid had lost $20.00-$30.00 and realized he was being hustled. And he would do this to person after person.

When you are that much better than someone, it is possible to make it look close when it isn't n

BUT THIS WASN'T EVEN CLOSE. 11-5, 11-3 is not just a blowout.

It's 3:00 in the morning in the UK and 5:00 in the morning in Helsinki. Shouldn't you guys be sleeping? This is devotion to table tennis, for sure. Misguided of course, but still notable.

He was probably serving topspin. You need to angle your racket down, because the topspin will make the ball bounce upwards from the surface it hits. You also need to push into the ball a bit: if you just let your bat sit there, you'll eat the spin.

I hope you don't have too much lunch money.

Just curious: he said he missed. He didn't really say how. What made you think he is missing off topspin serves.

is there bats with antispin already on them? where can i buy

Hahahahaha. This is funny. You would not know what to do with antispin and you may not even be able to get the ball on the table using it.

Well you are stuck now. Here is the thing. You probably have no chance at all to keep your money.

But here is some technical advice. When you see the ball flying off the table from his serve, notice the direction it goes. See if it is always in the same place. If that is the case then know it is pretty much one serve all the time, with the same spin and you need to compensate by hitting the ball in the opposite direction, even if it seems like you are going to be hitting the ball off the table. The first rule of dealing with spin is you have to compensate for it. You actually have to more or less over-compensate from what a beginners intuition tells you is happening.

Now, if sometimes your return of serve goes into the net and sometimes off the end and sometimes to one side or the other, it means this guy is able to vary the spin on his serve and disguise it enough that you can't see it (which from the sounds of things would be pretty easy for anyone who posts here regularly, but no matter). If that is happening he is absolutely a much better player who is messing with you, goading into betting money so he can take it from you. None of us here can help you with your immediate problem. You have no chance and the best you can hope for is to lose with dignity and class. Later you can become friends with this guy and he can show you what he is doing.

It could be anything, but I just got that impression because he said it didn't land on the table. Beginners usually seem to have most problems grasping slow topspin serves and think they hit it "too hard" or something. It could be heavy side, too.

Now, this guy's most likely bait, so he's probably just using the most common example of a newbie error to cause a ruckus.

I'm just sitting here, watching everyone reply to the obvious bait. Although Carl's stories are worth staying up for.

I went to lie down for "ten minutes" in the evening and woke up past midnight, so now I'm here up at 5AM. Good thing it's the weekend...

OK, I am going to assume you are actually for real, although as with Archosaurus, I tend to doubt it.

Insanity is when you do the same thing over and over again and expect a different outcome. He is serving topspin that you can't see or have never seen before. That kind of spin makes the ball fly long. Try to keep the return very low, and don't be afraid of hitting into the net, his spin will carry it over. Also, remember, on return of serve, the stroke you use is much shorter and softer than any other shot you hit in table tennis. Once the ball gets into the rally, try not to beat yourself, keep the thing on the table no matter what, let him be the one to miss first. That is all I can tell you for now.

Now try to get some sleep.

Hahahah. He references a video and does not post the video. I love it. Now we know what the serve looks like from this great video. :) Lulz.
