I don't want to spam the board so I thought I'd put this in chit chat.

Hopefully I've built up a good enough reputation along with some of you to "give me a pass" on this one but our table tennis club, which I help operate, essentially does not have any way, that the parks & rec department will easily allow for us to raise funds for the purchase of new tables.

So we have decided to start a gofundme page. We are based in Lincoln, Nebraska. I thought I would pass this along for anyone interested in hearing our story.

https://www.gofundme.com/help-support-lincoln-table-tennis?ssid=830673598&pos=1

If you're not interested and don't want to see this stuff, don't worry, it was a one time deal.

Thanks, Suds.

If you are a registered club with the USATT, you can get tournament tables after a major tournament at a huge discount from Butterfly or Joola. Nebraska isn't easily close to anywhere, but it might be worth visiting a major tournament to make the purchase and accept the shipping bill.

Would recommend you make a separate thread as well and spam the board as not everyone looks at the chit chat.

NextLevel gave real good info. Another reason to make a separate thread is that, in 2 days this thread will be 10 pages longer and this import subject will get buried.

Ah ok, there is that then!

So don't encourage him to get a decent rubber on BH. It would be even more trouble playing him.

Carl remembers when I used his 2x MX-P equipped V+... Not sure if I missed a loop in a 5-10 minute loops session with PP Holic. If I put a real modern rubber on BH (like I got on the Karis M + MX-P Nexy Rubicon setup) then look out.

But don't sweat it too much, I have been way too Rambo on FH trying to get my FH into play at the expense of balance.

Cookie Monster,

I will likely be a little over two hours away from San Jose. Not a mission impossible, but don't count on my showing up in the middle of the week unless I get paid... and surveying the crowd in that city, I would be number 178 on the list waiting for a payday in TT.

No worries, they are plenty of clubs to play in whenever you are in town ... just keep me posted a little ahead of time .. so that I can free up my weekend schedule ...

Today, our last table tennis practice for the semester at my university. me and the best player played a couple matches (RECORDED). Once on a good table that bounces correctly. Best of 5. Uploading that one first because I won and it makes me feel better. ^.^ . I actually kinda kicked his butt that set.

But then on the table with the weird bounce he won, best of 7. We played on this one first. He kicked my ass 4-2. But it was a convincing win. After I beat him in the second match on the good table I asked him if he was tired. He replied with "you just understood the bounce better because it worked like a real table" the first match I had the advantage because the topspin balls wouldn't speed up and you reached out for them. I've always noticed tables bouncing differently and effecting the game in various ways but this was the first time another player brought it up and talked about how he actually plays better on bad tables.

He's an 1800 player btw. Upload 10% for my win, 2% for his. I'll post soon.

I'd also like to throw in, we have to make bets when we play. He can't play seriously without the bets. 10$ per match

First here's a quick video of how I warm up my feeling away from the table. Easy to do at home, anyone can do it. I'm bad at it ^.^

Now here's my match footage. The match I lost (best of 7) will have to come tomorrow, huge upload time.

ps quality will increase within an hour

Yes I know I overuse my backhand, working on it. but in my defense I know I can overpower his backhand with mine.

ahhh and point 4:12, I HATE forehand flicks, so I go wide for the backhand flick instead. look at the placement of my left foot. it doesn't move even though I'm all the way on the forehand side.

if any high level players out there can figure out what it is about my game that makes me unable to do a forehand flick consistently, please chime in and give me some advice <3

IT's because you don't turn your shoulders to play the forehand over the table. In general, you need to launch your shoulder slightly forward on all forehand shots, on the loops, turning the shoulders makes it obvious but on flicks, the pushing of the body into the shot can be so small it is imperceptible but you can make it more obvious by letting the ball come closer to you or moving your body to the ball in a way that brings it closer to the ball while allowing you to get some body weight behind the shot. On the backhand, it is easier to avoid reaching if you have a good backhand because the feeling of the body is always behind the shot. It just means you are a more natural backhand player. But with work on carrying your shoulder closer to where you will flick and taking the ball a bit more besides you ( looking over at it), it gets better.

Doesn't it have to do a little bit also with the way he holds his paddle, if the wrist is cocked so far , its always in a ready position for backhand but , isn't it too extreme for forehand flick.
@UpSideDownCarl : Do you have the same problem too when your wrist is too far extended ? ... just asking

After NextLevel gets you to understand why you need to fix the hook in your wrist, and then you work on insideout FH down the line or from BH corner to BH corner, then we will bring Mark Croitoroo in to finish the job.

That was what Mark worked on with me and showed me that made the short game on the FH side start clicking better.

But it wouldn't have happened without me being able to contact the inside of the ball on FH. I am so used to hooking my FH that I had to get comfortable insideouting it before what Mark showed me could click.

I still suck at it and I still needs work. But it is much easier than how I was seeing it in my head. And Mark gave me the last piece of the puzzle a few weeks ago. And that is what started clicking in my third ball practice on Sunday.

Today was a very underwhelming day, but I still went out of my way to get some video recorded. We couldn't find a way to send the video recorded on another person's phone anywhere, at least without wasting a lot of time, so I just charged my empty phone and filmed on it.

I don't know if anything has improved, but say anything that comes to mind. Preferably about my strokes: are they going in a better or worse direction?

Excuse the cameraman and opponent ****ing around, it was a pretty casual session as is evident.

Is this angle better?

The hook is not the problem, I play with hook too as do most backhand/backhand grip players.

The inability to remove the thumb from the blade face is, as that makes it incredibly hard to take the wrist back and fade a forehand.

Correct, it is the freedom to adjust the grip when needed. I still play with the hook most of the time. Now, once in a while I loop straight topspin to confund an opponent. And when I go down the line, I can choose to insideout, straight or hook. Before I was stuck with dr hook on all shots.

Without that freedom to adjust the grip, the info Mark gave me about getting the upper body forward behind the ball and turning the shoulders, or the short bang directly into the ball, I am not so sure it would have helped.

Shuki does adjust and change his grip subtly throughout the match though, so it is more a feeling of comfort with the quality of the shot. Even if you have the right grip, the forehand flick can still be a pain to play if you don't know how to move closer to the ball to play a forehand shot over the table.
