Girls are pretty in Japan, BUT from this remark it is obvious you have never been to Chengdu. Women there (and Chongqing) are stunning. (I married one, in full disclosure.) A remarkable number of Chinese models come from that area but literally the only place I've been where it was equally hard to not stare at so many beautiful women was Stockholm. And Laguna Beach.
Food is great too. Now don't get me wrong, Japan is one of my favorite places and I never turn down a chance to go there. Also incredible food. Personally this would be a tough choice for me and I have been to both places many times.

Hotels and food are a lot cheaper in Chengdu and that is something to consider. Getting a visa to go to China is always annoying. Chinese consulates are not friendly places.

Either one would be a great trip.

Its a tough choice.

You better just go to both and report back to us. Only rational decision you can make faced with this problem

I'd go to Japan since it's going to be more a 'trip' for you, especially if you've never been there and china just isn't a pleasant country to go around to.

Sichuan food is unique and not everybody loves it like I do and for sure he can find it in Singapore. Chengdu is famous for great street food and a lot of it is quite unique.

Japan is a lot easier for tourists who only speak English. Of course lots of Singaporeans speak Chinese.

You're darn right about Stockholm, sir! :)

There is no bad decision.

It would be a sin for a tourist to est Sichuan food in Japan when there is so much awesome Japanese food to be had! By the same token a lot of the best aspects of Sichuan food are never seen outside of that province even at great Sichuan reataurants in places like Beijing.

I think there will be great TT at both tournaments. Hard to know in advance which will have more top players. I wish I could go to either one.

For your viewing pleasure (and the three places that stick in my mind):

The whole Laguna Beach thing sticks in my mind -- strongly!!!! -- because it was a place I went on my very first trip to California when I was about 20 years old . It was March and I was coming from a cold bleak midwerstern state not known for beauty of any sort. And, let's just say I was very impressed not just with the the quantity and quality, but also noted that women there were very friendly also. Which was not something I was used to, that is for sure! (I still remember the brunette in the purple bikini..... several decades later).

I actually lived in Sweden when I was a kid, and even then the place was notable (I was then at an age when that was not something that was very important to me), but in the times I have returned as an adult, all I can say is the place fully deserves its reputation as a place where if you wait on a street corner for about 30 seconds, some incredibly beautiful woman will walk by.
