Hello TT Community,

I started playing table tennis for 6 month ago, im current rated 1450 ish, started at 1000. i had a debut in a higher league match where i nearly won against a player with 1900 ish rating.

currently my setup is Timo boll alc with mx-p max thickness on both sides, i've tried some stuff on the way and maybe you could call me an EJ ;), however i do like the journey and trying stuff, i have got a coach once a week and he advised me on the blade not the rubber. however he says that i am fine using mx-p. but as you guys probably have heard before when balls comes fast im quite confident but when i play against player where i myself is the one to generate the speed i sometimes become insecure, overshoot or make simple mistakes due to my inexperience and skill level.

Of couse im still learning but could i simply go "down" in gear would that help the confidence when recieving slow medium high balls with various spin?
I've been talking to a friend of mine and he recommended petr korbel with rozena on it, seems like a legit suggestion if that could help the confidence thing.
What is your take on it? if you want to grill me it's fine some guy might allready have asked this question before

Your setup is already very nice. But since you are EJ, and that's a fun aspect of Table tennis, a couple suggestions:

1) You could try a inner alc or zlc blade. This will somewhat change the dynamic of your blade, orient it towards looping rather than driving.

2) You could try a German or Chinese hybrid rubber on your FH. It will also slightly change your orientation towards more spin and power, rather than just pure speed.

No need to get an entire new bat (unless you want to), just get slower rubbers. Or just keep using your MXP, the factory booster wears off after ~2 months.
Thanks for your feedback, my rubber has probably past that point😊, that is partly why I was thinking that there is a wiser choice, maybe your right on a slower rubber could help it.

Thanks for your response, i have thought of an innerforce style blade once before, but could not decide on what to choose. However you have a point on the rubber and blade I some times tend to play blocky or a flat speedy game especially if I feel pressured instead of trying to turn it around. But personally I would prefer to play more spiny.

There are only two paths open for strong aspiring players:

1. Viscaria with Butterfly rubbers ( Rozena / Glyzer / Tenergy / Dignics ) in such order

2. 968 with H3 heavily boosted

any other and it is the deviant path. There is no other way. Only these two paths to the summit of greatness.

p/s Going fwd there will be less talk about Euro style or Asian style, but rather Viscaria players vs 968 players in the TT world.

table tennis is a different game where you make the speed or your blade makes the speed.
Or you borrow the incoming speed, or you generate the outgoing speed.
table tennis is all about balance of speed and spin, match with control (its no use you have speed or spin, but no control).

I am with your coach/view point that drop a gear or two lower on the blade. rubbers is okay, and when you can fully go speed + spin + control, then you can start upping your gear.

EJ is fun, but it is a sin for development, especially developing player with some potential.

So if you are serious, save the EJ for future.

Hmm maybe I mislead you in my sentencing but my coach wanted me to play timo boll alc, It was a friend who suggested a slower setup. My setup is to fast i recognize that, but could just stick on slower rubbers or should I even step down in blade aswell. Thank you for your comment👍

Hehe might be, my blade is already in that category, Timo boll alc is the same composition as viscaria, so maybe go down to rozena rubbers👍 thank your for the comment👍👌

Price does not matter as long it is not 700 ish euro like 968w long 5. To much money in my opinion for a blade.
Somebody recently posted in another thread a list of top inner fibre blades.

But i cant find which thread that was in.

Sound similar to my friends response why japanese version? I there that big of a difference? Why those rubbers haven't tried then before. Thanks for the feedback.
The Japanese version of the Korbel has more touch. The nice thing about the Korbel is that it’s a 5-ply all-wood blade that still packs a punch.

G-1 and R7 are solid offensive rubbers that can produce good spin and speed while remaining stable and more controllable than MX-P and the likes. They’re not factory boosted so they don’t change, and they last a lot longer.

If you wanted a wood like OFF- inner carbon blade, I’d highly recommend the Yasaka Ma Lin Carbon.

Hmm interesting as I understand it harimoto innerforce alc is quite similar to korbel? At least on their diagram is that also a candidate. I think Korbel sound like at good idea however I do not like to much vibration. I had an andro tp ligna all, It was way too much.

I would say keep the current blade and try something like K3 for a while.

My recommendation for what it is worth - keep your blade, switch to a rubber like Tibhar K3 which will give you more grip and touch and just train hard, especially in the over the table game, from there. It is okay if you switch blade too, but most of the reward is in the training hours, the equipment will help but since you are already used to your blade, there is nothing wrong with keeping it. If you want to try something else, go ahead, but don't waste too much time, almost everything you want is mostly in the training hours and deciding whether you want to use sticky rubbers or not.

Korbel doesn't vibrate much, the Harimoto ALC also feels stiffer and faster and vibrates more.
