Well, Ito is a tsundere. Thanks to her absence, Harimoto had the chance to show that Ito is no longer indispensable.

Ito: No singles, no Mima.
tbf, Ito has reached her peak and Chinese players has already have her in the palm of their hands as well as Kihara. Let Harimoto plays will increase the number of combinations Japan can come up with when they faced China. The gold medal match yesterday was the best team match they have ever played in a long time, all 3 players get at least 1 set and are less inferior in rallies than before.

Yes, Hayata and Hirano mention that, too. This final was even better than the one at Asian Games 2014, despite losing 0-3 versus 1-3, because they had a fighting chance in all 3 of them.

And that's why I'd been telling Ishikawa and have started telling Ito to retire. For Ito, her value in WS, WD, XD and now WT has greatly depreciated in this Olympic cycle. It seems 23 is the number in defining a career. Hirano has broken through that barrier after spending the last 5 years figuring a way out. Hayata has barely caught up after wasting the last 5 years learning from Ito. Ito will be 23 next month and is she going to turn into another Ishikawa?

Terrible result for Hirano. She now has 430 points, 21.5 ahead of Ito's 409.5 which can be wiped out if Ito finished 3 places ahead of her at the 6th Road to Paris Selection Tournament. But Hirano won't just want to maintain her lead, but broaden it as much as possible because things will get even tougher at the All-Japan 2024, where players gain an additional 30 points for each round past R16 and additional 20 points past semifinals.

Neither of them will want to face Hayata in these tournaments. Hopefully Hayata keeps her promise to not play in the 6th Selection Tournament, which is possible if she reaches semifinals in the Asian Games. That will bring her point total to 680.5 which will lock in her Paris singles spot since neither Ito or Hirano can make the difference even if they win both tournaments for 220 points.

It’s impossible to predict the outcome against North Korean athletes

A disaster for JPN. Even Hayata played below par. Hate to say it, but CIC lost to her injuries.
I prefer she plays below par and still wins rather than the contrary. I hope she will thank heavens for still be in and bring something different in SF

To have a chance against China, Hayata needs to show the same dominance she has on her teammates.

Back in the Tokyo 2020 cycle, Hirano (from late-2016 to mid-2017) and Ito (from early-2018 or mid-2018 to late 2019 or early 2020) showed dominance against teammates and overseas players, but the level of dominance they had over their teammates was not as lopsided as Hayata has had so far. In other words, Hayata has displayed asymmetrical dominance when it comes to overseas players.
