It seems that it has been a long long time since WCT ever played good. Even the famous JackWong did not bother to talk about him anymore.
No, not really, JackWong just has disappeared. WCT has been very consistent, including the Asian Games bronze and the last WTTTC in Busan. Ultimately, you can't play the Teams event when you don't have a Team, even when you yourself don't lose any matches.

Odo and Yokoi won Doubles. Odo is fortunate to be the last player in the Main Draw for Feeder Dusseldorf. Yokoi is in the Qualifiers which literally starts tomorrow.
I thought Yokoi would avenge the last tournament but alas, after going up 2-0 and I Stopped watching, I find she lost 2-3. Seriously?

Odo, whenever I watch her, I keep seeing a smaller Hirano and for my mental attitude, I think it works.

Yokoi needs to work on her consistency on rallies, but I think it's mostly a mental hurdle she needs to overcome with Lee Eunhye. In fairness, Women's Doubles Finals was the last match of the evening at Feeder Varazdin, Croatia and she had to go to Dusseldorf for qualifiers the next day.

Yokoi may be more talented, but Odo seems to have a very carefree personality and doesn't seem bothered much when behind. Winning a Feeder is a confidence booster for her. She's currently battling against Shibata so we'll see where she's at.

Enough for me to tell that Odo is stronger than Yokoi. Still need more time to tell if both of them will really be passed over for LA 2028.

Judging from Odo's performance here in Osaka, I'd say she is even stronger than Yokoi.

More proof that Hayata and Hirano held back in league matches. IIRC, Yokoi came close but never beat Hayata and Hirano in the selection trials. Poor Ito, for losing at Zennihon Takkyu 2023.

Hirano has lost only 3 times this season and all to Yokoi. OTOH, Yokoi's win rate is still ugly but she has beaten Hayata, Hirano, Harimoto, and Kihara. Ugly win rate for Odo as well but somehow she managed to finish just 1 spot above Yokoi in the Road to Paris.

The field for LA 2028 will be far more contested. It's still early to tell how competitive it will be, but there are at least 5 more up-and-coming players besides Harimoto.

Continuing from where I left off (11/12/2022 at 3:52am):
Hirano (2000/4/14)
Hayata (2000/7/7)
Ito (2000/10/21)

Nagasaki (2002/6/15)
Yokoi (2004/4/23)
Odo (2004/5/16)
Kihara (2004/8/3)

AOKI Sachi (2007/4/10)
MENDE Rin (2007/12/31)
TAKEYA Misuzu (2008/4/17)
TAKAMORI Mao (2008/5/15)
Harimoto (2008/6/16)
OJIO Yuna (2008/7/5)

Where Yokoi, Odo, Takamori and Aoki are affiliated to Shitennoji and Miki House. Given Yokoi's and Odo's zero international activities in 2022 and 2023, whereas Takamori had been playing weekly for the most part since May, 2023 and Aoki started playing again in Nov, 2023, I get the impression that both Yokoi and Odo will be passed over in the next cycle, much like Nagasaki and Kihara.

Although at this point, it does look like Odo is stronger than Yokoi, it's too early to tell for any LA 2028 possibility. Yokoi played Hirano 3 times in T-League and won all 3 times. I think she did reasonably well at the latter half of the Paris race as well. But I do recall Odo making the finals which is very difficult to do meeting Hayata at one of the trials. But at least there will be good competition for LA 2028.

If you ask me, the levels displayed by Odo and Yokoi up to this point won't be enough for LA 2028. The time I need is actually not for them, but rather to see how far Ojio Yuna/Mende/Aoki/Takamori/Takeya will grow 3 years from now (not 4 but 3 as JTTA has the tradition of announcing the lineup in January of the Olympic year).

To be honest, if they didn't convert their potential in this cycle, it's not realistic to expect Odo and Yokoi (like Kihara and Nagasaki) to fulfill it in the next cycle, when the next wave will show explosive growth. So the 4 of them are caught between a rock and a hard place.

Hayata 4-2 Harimoto(10, 9, 9, -6, -8, 10)

I'll say it now.
Fukuhara(1988/11/1) - 2nd luckiest
Ishikawa(1993/2/23) - 1st luckiest
Shibata(1997/8/25), Sato(1997/12/23), Hashimoto(1998/7/5), Kato(1999/4/14) - 2nd most unfortunate
Hirano(2000/4/14), Hayata(2000/7/7), Ito(2000/10/21) - Golden Generation in terms of World Titles and Continental Titles
Nagasaki(2002/6/15), Kihara(2004/8/3) - 1st most unfortunate
Harimoto(2008/6/16) - The future is mine!

It seems that Kanak Jha comes back stronger. Too bad that he won't be able to play all these bigger events yet.
that’s the idea when you start doping, come back stronger

Odo just looks more complete, though these things are not just about the player, they are also about the competition. Odo would be on any first national team outside of China and Japan.

An Jaehyun rewrote table tennis history with that win. That's the way it seems now.
