Getting the MS bronze at Asian Games 2022 really helped when trailing behind as he said in an interview.

An Jaehyun grabbed defeat from the jaws of victory. Up 2-1, 10-5 suddenly starts playing passively. Congrats WCT for the comeback.

Although Yokoi was my pick to win the women's singles, I'm just as happy for Satsuki Odo winning 3-1 over Lee Eunhye. Odo has a chance for a doubles crown as well which is coming up next.
8 match points, Is AJH the new choker? It was obvious that he was playing for safe after 10:5 in the 4th game.

WCT turned his attention to XD around 2018 after it became a new event of Tokyo 2020, but ended up nowhere in all 3 events.

He is focusing on MS and XD now that they have failed to qualify for MT of Paris 2024. Will see how he fares this time.

Kanak Jha just dismantled Hiroto Shinozuka who I thought had a good chance of winning the tournament. Live chat was funny because some Japanese commenters said he must have been doping. If he continues to play like this, Kanak will definitely take one of the Olympic spots from the ITTF Americas Olympic Singles Qualification tournament next month.

It was complete domination, Shinopi did try some short topspin serves in game 2 thar made it interesting but on the whole, Kanak annihilated him for that level of play

Tanaka has shown he can beat WCQ so he doesn't have to worry about the rest of the world ;)

Not sure how the qualification works, but isn't it that every country can send two players?

It seems that Kanak Jha comes back stronger. Too bad that he won't be able to play all these bigger events yet.
unless wild card.
having spoken to players that was former top 30 and drop off the radar due to non participation cause of injury and starting from feeder - takes over a year to climb (only 2nd year where you can be in the nice points events)

No. Since the USA Men did not qualify a team, currently there are no USA men qualified for singles. Kanak Jha and Nikhil Kumar placed the 2 highest in the recent 2024 USA Olympic Trials so they will be sent to the 2024 ITTF Americas Olympic Qualification Tournament where the top 4 will be going to the Olympics.

Kanak is also stomping his foot on the serve, don't recall that from before.
I think he has always done that as far as I can remember. But my memory may be faulty - he still has those very basic serves that somehow work well for him.

His style is more like a defense-attack type. A simple serve actually makes a return more predictable and easier to defense or attack?
That's one rationalization. That said, he can and does score points of his serves and now he can clearly loop kill loose returns. But the serve itself doesn't scare anyone and it is all various pendulums and straight backspin no spin combos and I can't remember the last time I saw him serve reverse sidespin though I think he does have a rare punch variant (but I might need confusing him with someone else).
