According to my fitness app, I've never burnt more than 1100 kcal playing TT for 3 hours more or less continuously. Either I'm lazy or more efficient than you lot 😜
Maybe both 😂

To be honest, it seems that weight is a factor how the device calculates burned calories.
So in my case: 🐘

It hardly depend on a source from what actual data is taking - heart rate chest strap is the most accurate results, watches can be waaaay more incorrect. Plus average heart rate - the higher it is - the more calories you will burn

In order to burn 2400 calories, you need to run 40 km or play 4 hours of a high-level competitive lawn tennis match, where you cover much more ground than with table tennis.

Calorie trackers usually flatter to deceive and overestimate calorie burn by anywhere from 30 to 90 percent.

The only good thing about it is that counting calories is pointless. Especially if you are trying to shed some weight.

You can do different kind of activities not only one, that you mentioned, and professional runners should have lower heart rate during running, than tt players - so tt burn more calories. Does boxing and wrestling burning more calories than jogging - definitely yes. But in general marathon running is aerobic sport, tt is mostly anaerobic if we talking bout decent level.

I’m just curious from what source you pick your information. And did you ever had a descent physique, low body fat %? Counting calories could be very beneficial for some people, it’s only a tool - the question is would you manage to gain something useful from it or not, does it help you to achieve your goals? For me, for example, I have never counted calories even when I competed - and I have achieve pretty high results.

I’m telling your as an fitness/martial arts coach, two time national silver medalist in bodybuilding, one time in mma, plus I had national/euro champions students.

Burned 2600 cals in the last friendly club against club competition, 6 matches I think 2 of them were 5 sets. The last match was against their top in the group guy and we both were too tired and struggled during warmup to keep ball on the table.

But you can burn even more if you go into play off section.

on the other side claim that you need so much exercise to burn a single burger is also overstatement

A burger is about 350 calories. This means you need to run about 3.5 miles to burn it.

Having said all that, I can only stress that counting calories is just a waste of time. A calorie is an artificial measure which has nothing to do with human metabolic biochemistry. A Calorie (Cal) is a energy unit equivalent to the heat energy needed to raise the temperature of 1 litre of water by 1 °C. Our bodies don't see calories, it is not a part of nutrition. So "calorie in, calorie out" is a gross oversimplification at best and at worst it is a distraction aimed at convincing you that all calories a equal, and 200 calories of broccoli is the same as 200 calories of donuts. That's the main point, not the question of whether calorie trackers are accurate or not. Weight management is not about counting calories, not even about execrcise (although exercise is very helpful because you build lean muscle mass, activate metabolism and increase insulin sensitivity among other things). But weight management is almost entirely about your relations with food and understanding about what different foods do to you.

Bro, like that’s the whole point. If you want to cut fat, and weight you should be in calorie deficit. How you achieve that - by eating burgers or salads - not matter the most - but it matter anyway how much you ate and how much you train. There is no other way.

Most male people needed, let’s say less than 2000 - about 1500-1800 calories per day to achieve that goal. But they didn’t understand that their favorite salad in some sort of a fast food restaurant, that their a using to go for a lunch brakes every day has like 500+ calories because of a huge amount of fat sauce in it etc, two coffee lattes a day can be another 600 calories. When I as in USA I went to one restaurant and the amount of calories in their burger was close to 1000 according to menu ( it was hell of a big burger we don’t have such monsters in Europe ) So if they didn’t count what their are consuming, they easily making a mistake, and never achieving their goals.

Most people didn’t have the knowledge, and culture about food that their are eating on a regular basis. For such people is beneficial to counting all the calorie intake, and very often when they starting to count, they are surprised how easily they be fooling themselves most of the time. But it’s not some kind of a magic stick, that helping you to solve all the problems. As I already told, I didn’t count calories, never did. Im eating mostly seafood and rice for past fifteen years or so. But there is a lot people that are getting benefits from better understanding how much they need, and now much they intake in reality

All what I wrote is out there, it's a common knowledge and not a secret )) I am not a high performance athlete now, I'm much older than you. But I have good physique and decent lean muscle mass. But I don't even care to measure it these days. This is because I know how to regulate it quickly when/if needed. That's why I often feel sorry for ordinary middle-aged obese guys who are sweating in the gym or running in our park trying to jog away from excess kilograms. Sport is great, but their problem lies elsewhere.

I stopped measuring my indexes long ago. My only measuring tool now is my jeans size, it's waist 30in fyi, just like it was many a year ago, when I was a teenager. I do weights 3 times a week and play TT about 6-9 hours a week. In my view it's enough for a 68 years old fart. And of course no sugar, no bread, no processed food, no veg oil, etc etc. Cook for yourself and avoid snacks. That's basics that work for me.

My club partners sometimes say to me "You're so lucky with your genes and your metabolism". Each time I want to reply "It's not about the genes mate"*, but I just don't want to open this huge box of worms and only reply "Yeah, thanks". These guys were lied to about nutrition all their lives including this "calorie in calorie out" BS, and it will take years to change it, sadly. In the meantime over half of adult Americans are metabolically unhealthy, 73% are overweight and over 40% are obese. UK is catching up. It's a sad, sad picture.

Professional athletes, high performance sports, bodybuilding or kicking each other with both feet for a living is a completely different ballgame, you may measure your calories and whatnot for whatever performance reasons you want, I know nothing about it and not interested in that. I'm talking about ordinary guys like me who do sports as a hobby and want to be fit and healthy, which is vast majority of this forum.

*OK, I feel I need a disclaimer here)) There IS a small % of individuals who are genetically predisposed to be overweight, their adipose cells have increased ability to store fat. These people are healthy, despite being oversized and any attempts to shed weight long term are mostly futile, because what they perceive as overweight is indeed their optimal weight, but it's a very small minority.
