retail profit in Japan is low, because they have volume.
i see your signature says you are from singapore.
well, at US$ 42+10% tax (46.20), how many people will buy tenergy rubbers in your home country? (by assuming there is no tax and no shipping costs)
market is too small, no volume to allow low margins.

in Japan, since it is domestic ordering. you can top up every day if you want.
For overseas distributor, they need to order in bulk due to very expensive logistics costs.
Capital overhead is way bigger for overseas reseller than that of one in the brands domestic market.

in the top TT nations, reseller don't really make profit on rubbers, because it is a consumable item.
the market is big, and the people change rubbers very often.
Tenergy is only good for 4 to 6 weeks use for example in Japan or Taiwan.
so returning business is higher too.

so it is very difficult to compare $46 vs $80, as the cost and P/L factors are just so different.
As I understand it or was told, butterfly resellers were told to keep to a standard price without discounted or they would lose their dealership. But the resellers seem to suggest even at the high prices (compared to Japan) , their margins are super thin compared to other brands and they prefer to sell other brands and just carry butterfly just because they have to carry one of the main brands.

So I do not know. But looking at how we can’t buy butterfly from almost all on like stores, and Japan on line stores like TT-Japan or nishohi are selling it almost the same exact price as in Singapore or
What most are paying in other countries, it seems
Like it is Some Form of price control from butterfly. It is strange as they could have make more sale by lowering the price or allowing market forces to price their products.

I get your idea but we should not forget that the japanes can be some of the biggest ""Brand-snobs" on the planet. They DO want a good brand to be expensive and if a Dignics (for example) would come on the market for $ 35 there would be a lot of people that would not be seen dead with them. This is worse than the indian cast system, the more one can afford to spend the better it must be - the better people they think they must be.
Something like that 😁

Better yet, bring me to a nice coffee shop with wifi so can go to Amazon -Japan, buy the cheapest Bty products and have them delivered to my hotel room the next morning.

Can't help it. I am an Asian Ojisan. Asian Ojisan must play with one ply Hinoki with Tenergy rubber. Preferably JPen with no rubber on BH.

Actually their price is dropping by inflation,
They are introduced around 2008, until this day euro inflation is about 50-60ish percent.
Also I’m not sure initial price could be higher. (According to old posts)

For example, Butterfly has increased viscaria’s price tag to 170 from 130 last year.
On top of other retailers making expensive rubbers like nunz, genexation etc.
Depends on their sales performance price may drop or stay, IMO.

margins on Butterfly rubbers is terrible.
you want to do business, don't sell table tennis equipment, period.

So I do not know. But looking at how we can’t buy butterfly from almost all on like stores, and Japan on line stores like TT-Japan or nishohi are selling it almost the same exact price as in Singapore or

distribution rights exists for all the brands. This applies to any industry, so it isn't unique.
illegal distribution from non official channels for that country, is called grey imports.
for items that carry warranty, for example, the local distribution network may not support warranty on grey imported goods.

for table tennis, Butterfly is just strict to enforce it, and will fire distributors for breaching its distribution agreement.

so, Butterfly is like "the brand", where it is locked per region/country. Thus allowing the local distributor to have full control of the brand within the region

The control is actually very important. consumers don't see the bigger picture most of the time.

IE, if you keep buying butterfly rubbers from Japan and not your home country. Then what you are doing is, making Japan bigger, and your home country smaller.

When the time comes for butterfly to put money into your country, the money from your part is going to japan.
it is normal for most consumers to not be bothered for something that isn't going into them directly, but end of the day, how much a brands gives that country in support is all relative to its sales.

Consumers all want the best deal, and with the digital age, that is possible.

So what is happening is.... many countries table tennis stores (which is only one of many industries), are closing down, the suppliers are no longer pumping as much support/marketing fund, into the countries, and .... go ask your supplier to help you sponsor your next tournament (but then they will say, we only support tournaments in Japan), and the bigger picture is, there is still no winner.

Butterfly's model - I don't like, so I stop selling it after 2 years.
but it is the biggest brand, in terms of market share, within the world of table tennis.

1. Just ordered a sheet of T25fx ( FH use ) for USD 53.00. Thank you Shopee and your 7.7 promo.
2. Was already eyeing this baby since two months back, but there was no good deal on it back then. Just had make do with Donic rubber until then. BTW, Donic is the cheapest ESN rubber in my locality.
3. 7.7 promo came and suddenly, Shopee gave a good deal and I grabbed it quickly.

Rubber products normally have shelf life of five years. Most dealers would sell out the expired products on huge discount.
Again, the ID label is to let you know valid production date of table tennis rubbers.

That is why I don't play with much Butterfly product. I like my hurricane.

What I heard is that most brands would sell it to the reseller at 50% of the market price. But Butterfly would sell it the official reseller at 70% of the market price. That 20% is where the money is at and without that 20%, it is very hard to make money off Butterfly products.
