There should be a reason why he was so furious, why not his second blade would just perform the same ? some ppl were talking about boosting, that is, the broken was boosted but the second wasn't yet and we all know boosting take some time. I myself going for another theory being a long time hurricane user. When I buy a new sheet, it just takes at least two sessions before it is fully functional !!. I know he gets the best hurricanes but I'm not sure if those have this very issue as wel
It is clear that no two blades are identical even if they are of the same model, because taking into account that the woods used are not of the same origin, it is obvious that the properties are slightly different.
Players of such a high level it is logical that they do not find the confidence to hit winners without their usual wood, I do not use this as an excuse, but their frustration is understandable.
The following photos

shows WCQ's concern and indignation.

Seeing that LXX prepared 2 rackets ahead of time at Rio 2016 and picked the one that felt better, the same should be true for WCQ. There is little doubt the broken blade had a negative effect on his mental state, even if he brushed it away in the post-match interview. But even if the incident didn't happen, his track record wasn't solid enough to guarantee that he wouldn't have lost.

No, he didn’t. He put it in his bag but didn’t put it in the case and an ignorant photographer stepped on his bag. theres a video of it btw, you can see the photographer’s face. Btw why would he throw it in anger after winning the mixed doubles event, or if you refer to it after he had found out that his bat was broken why would that matter? If it’s broken, it’s broken, no reason to be delicate with it anymore.
there is some footage and talk about deliberate breaking of the blade
I share the link, and have more photos on my phone somewhere.

the cameraman was not taking photos, he bent down to fiddle around the bag, and from the stand side footage, one can see him holding the paddle in his hand and stepping on it with his shoe to break it.

he didn't step on the paddle in the bag....
so, supposedly IOC is investigating...

The real reason is WCQ replacement blade did not ho through the 49 days blood ritual at the altar of the GOD of WAR. It was not imbued with the mystical power of the WAR DEITY Yuan-chang.

P/s: If you are white / black folks, is Ok if you do not understand what my post is all about.
@Tony's Table Tennis and his likes will know.
haha
well, wcq fans were all kneeing down and praying, it didn't work.

I think WCQ's problem is not the blade or the opponent. It is his head.

The old H3 where it was very very tacky takes about a week or two to break in, where the top sheet's extreme tackiness wears off during that period and then the level of tackiness (which is still very tacky) stays for like a year or two, literally.

The new H3 where the top sheet is not so tacky does not need as much time to break into.

I have no idea what special H3 WCQ gets and how long it would take to break in.

Also, he has to make sure his new blade, with newly boosted rubber, has to not exceed 4mm. So I had a feeling he was taking out his ruler overnight to measure his back up blades. That did not bode well for his sleep overnight.
they train with 2 to 3 paddles in the training hall
all pros are prepared to use the spare during any match, even half way through

oh so this might be "I want FZD not WCQ for gold" kind of a thing :D
if talking purely speculation and if it was indeed deliberate.
I don't think it has anything to do with FZD, but rather something against WCQ

I don't think we will ever know the truth

I'd agree with that but add that, while being sometimes inconsistent, he has reached incredible levels also over the past 2 years. It's a shame he has this 'shadow of the bat' hanging behind his Olympic singles record but I expect him to comelfortably and easily win every other match he plays now that the big pressure is off.

So we have video of the reporter being sneaky, deliberately stepping on the racket to break it and officially it is called an accident. Sound like a face saving, sweep it under the carpet cover up.

I would say that it is more psychological thing.

If I watched the other video, it seems that WCQ frequently abused his blade by throwing it around. So it will just a matter of time that his blade will be broken, either by him or by others.

I have to disagree, the guy huimself threw his blade in anger before, now it is the most precious thing ever ?
Yes, because the racket broke right before a match. Of course it's the most important thing during the FREAKING OLYMPICS.
