I have used 09C on a FZD ALC and a provincial HL5 known as provincial W968. I predominantly used it on my backhand and they both felt good, very good. For forehand I think 09C suits FZD better, HL5 blades I like better with H3N blue. If you are dead set on 09C both sides then get a FZD or Viscaria, it suits the blade more, but if you are willing to do H3N Blue Boosted and 09C, go for HL5

What's your friend current setup ? Depends a lot how long is he playing, bcs transition can be big or low but overal FDZ and HL5 are great blades and its personal preference if he likes more dwell time(HL5) or more crisp BH(FZD)

He currently has a Viscaria with both sides 09C, he plays on the first division of the Spanish TT league and has played in Germany for tournaments.

He tried Chinese rubbers boosted with 3 layers of haifu seamoon, after 1 month of using it he sold it as he didn’t like the rubbers itself. I’ll just recommend him the FZD ALC or just tell him to replicate FZD current setup lol. How about a H301X? People say it’s the cheaper HL5X by a lot, how well would it pair with 09C both sides?

His level is probably higher than most of us here, so I guess he could just get whatever he feel like most and still play well with it. A FZD ALC will not be much different from his viscaria, so if he want to try something new, probably a Long 5X will be a better choice. Better FH feelings than the Viscaria, and not significantly worse on the BH side like the Long 5.

Why does he want to change to a softer more controllable version of Viscaria? FZD ALC is very controllable but worse in max power.
Difference between FZD and Visc are very small. Lets say about 2-5% I would say. But Yeah FZD should be little softer than Visc especially old Visc. But overall when he switch to FZD he doesn't get some big benefits.

I was just thinking, at his high level of play, he can control a fast setup much better than any club level amateur. Viscaria seems a much better choice unless he's got FZD Olympic fever
