Any idea why WCQ is not being penalized for his serves? I mean, he regularly serves on the table and keeps hiding the ball.
I have frequently seen players being penalized for much smaller flaws on the WTT tour.
No idea. Truls complained about his serves and got a yellow card for complaining! Imo if he didnt have his serves he would be solidly behind Ma Long in the Paris Olympics race.

On the other hand, FZD is almost too clean that he enjoys no advantage from his serves at all...

I recall WCQ being called for a serve not vertical fault at a tourney where ITTF was trying out the video replay challenge system.

WCQ challenged the call and the video replay showed that the ball travelled a lot more horizontal than vertical.

ML challenged a serve hidden by the head call, and the replay clearly showed the ball falling behind his head.

Too bad this technology is probably too expensive to implement in more tourneys. If ITTF did have the $$$ for this, I would tell them to forget about it and use the $$$ to pay the players.

Why not just have an extra serve judge stand behind the receiving player to judge whether the ball is hidden or not. There shouldn't be grey area, it should just be abundantly visible.
I don't think that, for example, WTT (China-backed organization) is interested in removing its most promising player's key advantage. And it's to hard stress how WCQ relies on his serve dominance, it's among the main factors of his success, if not the main IMO.
Plus, it would cost extra money for one more official every match.
