If it's right after Champions Japan, it would hopefully be somewhere in Asia. There's already a China Smash, so Korea makes sense.

Interesting that WTT seems to be moving Smashes around. Understandably it may not be possible to get a long-term commitment from a host country/city at this stage, but since the Smashes are clearly supposed to be modeled after the Grand Slam tournaments in tennis, ideally I'd like to see them eventually settle into fixed locations to build history/tradition/prestige.

In a perfect world, I'd also like to see one of the Smashes in Europe -- maybe in Sweden, since it has a rich table tennis tradition and is missing a major event on the WTT calendar. Two Smashes in Asia (Singapore and China), one in Europe and one in the Americas seems like a good geographic balance for an international sport.

What are the grand slam (tennis) cities?
Australian Open -- Melbourne
French Open -- Paris
Wimbledon -- London
US Open -- New York

It's clear many aspects of the WTT are modeled after the professional tennis tours (plural because there are distinct men's and women's tours), with four grand slam/smash events per year and even similar rankings point values assigned to different tiers of events (e.g., 2000 points for a slam/smash, 1000 points for a masters/champions, etc.) The difference with the tennis tours are that the grand slam tournaments pre-dated the tour, and already had existing locations, facilities, and traditions.

I'm not sure how events are organized under WTT, but in pro tennis, the tournaments are each separate organizations that have their own facilities, budget, staff, etc. The tours are (in theory) run jointly by representatives of the tournaments and players.

I find it strange that here in Greece we don't have/get any feeder, contender or grand smash...yet.
When I see that here, all of a sudden, many clubs can apparently go deep into their pockets to bring world top players to their clubs. And this in a so-called, country with financial constraints.
If we compare Greece with a, according to many, wealthy financial country like Belgium, where only two-ranked players (no disparagement at all) play in the top Belgian league, I immediately have my reservations about how table tennis is developing in Europe and more specifically in countries such as Belgium, the Netherlands and Greece.

I love how you snuck grand smash in there, it would definitely be more strange if Greece had one of the 4 worldwide.

You could use some WTT event for sure though.
Is true, but I just mean that we have nothing here at all except a European championship for the deaf (Loutraki) and last year's organisation for the World Parkinson's table tennis championships (which was incredible in Heraklion) and an organisation from ETTU.
Just like in Belgium where only a WTT Youth contender is organised. Isn't that a bit strange that such countries cannot organise or be allocated anything significant from WTT?

I think it just comes down to planning & applying for it, the requirements are known. Can't imagine they already do and get turned down, Contender and especially Feeder are far from limited.

We're off topic though, regarding this Smash it's really about time for Europe to get one, but it's not looking great. I want to believe people saying Sweden, but it sounds unlikely to me. With Japan & Korea having Champions events already i also wouldn't know where in Asia they'd put it though. Please don't just simply switch out Saudi for Qatar or UAE.

France Smash was on the 2024 calendar ("leaked" by ETTU and ČAST), taking place in the same week as Saudi Smash.

They could be negotiating again and the dates could change. Singapore Smash 2025 was supposed to be held in March, as told by Dainton in an interview back in October.

Dainton said that WTT intends to stage up to four Smash series every year. The next time Singapore will host the Smash series is in March 2025.

i don't think you can compare club with federation
club can be rich, doesn't mean federation is
club can have vision, doesn't mean federation has

there is always more politics in federation level

it is all about return of investment when money is involved
maybe club ROI is more attractive than federation hosting an event.

Australian Open -- Melbourne
French Open -- Paris
Wimbledon -- London
US Open -- New York

Facts to date:

Australia only have junior contender
France has champions
London now will have star contender
US has a record amount of youth contenders (6), with 2 of them in New York

so far, China (if we include Macau) is the only country with champions and smash

I wonder how long the mystery will remain a mystery :p
