Anyways, this next match is from the same day as the first one (just like I mentioned).
The match was played between Borussia Düsseldorf and Levallois UTT.
First match was won by Vladi Samsonov, who beat quite easily Christophe Legout. Levallois felt, that they had to win the second match to keep the hopes alive, but Gatien lost to Matsu****a, as you could see in my first upload. The third match should be the final one, because there was Jorgen Rosskopf playing Patrick Chila, and he beat him like 4 times in a row! But this time Chila won so we got the fourth match - Vladimir Samsonov vs. Jean-Philippe Gatien.
Gatien before the match said, that he feels like he can beat at that time world best player and number one in the rankings - Vladi.
And the match showed that it was no empty guts!
What an excellent match it was!

Everything looks ancient but the play style is still pretty much similar to what Wang Li Qin plays like now.

So just like last two videos, this match was played november 29th 1999, when Caen came into Ochsenhausen.
After first match, where Ma Wenge lost to Jörgen Persson, Ochsenhausen were in deep trouble. But then, amazingly, exceedigly miracously Kalinikos Kreanga beat Wang Liqin and that set Fredrik Håkansson to beat Damien Eloi and suddenly the title holders Caen were facing a thread of the loss!
Wang Liqin as usual started in such amazing fluent form, leading 11:3!
Ma Wenge looked down and out, but guess what happened?

In the final met Borussia Dusseldorf and SVS Niederosterreich..
That means Vladimir Samsonov, Jorg Rosskopf and Koji Matsusheeta for Dusseldorf and Ma Lin, Werner Schlager, Qian Qianli and Konstantin Lengerov for Niederosterreich..

I am sorry it took so long!
BUT .. I have one incomplete english version and one almost complete german version, I combined them together, so I have one complete version..
It took some time and I also was waiting for some ideal time, where no pro tours would be played, so you can enjoy the video..
It is almost an hour long, so take a deep breath, because this hour is full of phantastic table tennis! !!!

It is the Liebherr champions league final of 1999-2000, that took place in SVS Niederösterreich, which welcomed Borussia Düsseldorf.
It was Koji Matsushita, Vladimir Samsonov and Jorgen Rosskopf for Borussia and Ma Lin, Werner Schlager and Qian Qianli for SVS.
First match was Ma Lin vs. Koji Matsushita..

It was the Japanese defence artist Koji Matsushita who was the match winner for the German team playing under protest because the Austrian team brought in the Chinese star Ma Lin. The Japanese top player was surprisingly nominated to position two of the team, normally occupied by Joerg Rosskopf. But the decision of the German coach Andreas Preuss was exactly right. Matsushita defeated Ma Lin with 22-20, 15-21, 21-14 in an outstanding match. This was the decisive break for Borussia Düsseldorf and a great shock for the 1100 Austrian spectators.


Only a few hours before the first service Ma Lin received the permission of the European Table Tennis Union (ETTU) to play the final of the Liebherr European Champions Laegue. Still on Friday, the ETTU had withdrawn with immediate effect the eligibility of the Chinese players Ma Lin and Liu Guoliang for the Austrian club because both players are supposed to have played at the end of 1999 for a team in the Chinese Superleague. After a protest of SVS Niederösterreich the Executive Committee of the ETTU overturned by majority vote Friday's decision, but with reservation.

Sorry Michal, but I haven't read your post till now.

The full match/short form I've made has been compiled using only the 1st set from your full match. I had this match already (except the 1st set) so (for 2nd & the 3rd Set) I have used different sources. I can't remember now exactly, but if you watch my video you will notice that the 2nd set has different lighting, colors etc comparing with yours, and in the 3rd set the commentator does not even speak english etc...).

Anyway, of course it is my pleasure and I have already put the link to your full video (read the beginning of the description of my video).

I'm really sorry if my omission causes bad feelings/thoughts to you.

I think that your work in this thread is invaluable, and I thank you very much for all these rare videos of the past!!

In the second match of the Liebherr european champions league final Werner Schlager met Vladimir Samsonov.
The second single between the Austrian Werner Schlager and Duesseldorf's European champion Vladimir Samsonov destroyed all hopes of the Austrian team and the spectators. Suffering from the flu, the Austrian star had no chance against Samsonov, losing 21-10, 21-5.
