Looking for best backhand 47.5 / 48 rubber for SALC

Hey everyone,

Happy owner of a 89 g Viscaria SALC, I first tried to play it for a few months with FastArc G-1 on both sides. It was ok but as an intermediate player, I was wondering if I would not get more stable and regular by pairing it with softer rubbers, so I had a try with Xiom Vega Korea in forehand and Donic Acuda S2 in backhand. I kinda liked it at first, forehand was more stable indeed, but after a few more months I can now affirm that I don't like the feeling at all and it's more hindering my regularity and consistency than supporting them. Medium soft rubbers on outer carbon blade is just not what I like in terms of feedback and sensations when I play. I have a rather aggressive type of play, I loop but I also punch and block a lot and while I'm able to do it with my current set-up, those shots are less deadly and simply less enjoyable.

So I'm now into getting back to harder rubbers. I already purchased a Andro NUZN 50 2.0 mm sheet for my forehand, so going up a notch in hardness compared to my initial Fast Arc G-1. Considering going back to G-1 for my backhand, but I was wondering if there was not another, potentially better option in the same hardness, so around 47.5 / 48 ESN. I'm looking for a rubber that is not crazy heavy and plan to go for 2.0 mm rather than Max to keep the global weight in check.

Any good option you fellow TT players could recommend?

Obvious answer is Tenergy 05
I know I know hahaha. When I came back to TT 3 years ago I first refused to spend the crazy money asked by BF for their sexy blades and rubbers. But look at me now with my Viscaria SALC... T05 is for sure a valid option, thx

Interesting option! From what I read it is also very light for a medium hard rubber so I might very well go with this choice. Thank you!
No worries. It’s relatively cheap, easy to use, and fast and spinny. If you are worried for control, get the 2.0mm thick one, otherwise get max. I got 2.0 bc I’m coming from H3 on BH so I will progress to max thickness later once I adjust but 2.0mm still gives fantastic spin and speed for its control

Don’t discount Glayzer 09c, it fits perfectly for me on Super Vis on BH & FH.

It helps that it is specifically targeted at the intermediate level and in Asia retails at a lower price point vs G1. In 2.1 it should be a similar weight if not lower weight to 2.0 ESN.

If you end up going this route I feel you should add a thin layer of Seamoon to soften it a touch and make it as fast as G1 due to the slight tackiness. It’s then set and forget for at least the next 4-6 months.

Btw I also have a FZD SALC at the same weight and G09c feels very weak on FH but still perfect on BH with or without booster.

Received the Xiom Omega Pro VII 2.0 for my backhand, glued the 2 rubbers (Andro Nuzn 50 2.0 and Xiom Omega Pro VII 2.0) on my Viscaria Super ALC. Total weight 185g, so only 2g heavier than my previous setup with Xiom Vega Korea Max and Donic Acuda S2 Max.

Re-weigthing my naked blade it's in fact 90g (and not 88). So 90g for the blade, 49g for the Andro Nuzn 50 and 46g for the Xiom Omega VII Pro. Not that heavy globally but feels pretty head-heavy. Expecting the racket to be a rocket tbh, we'll see if it's compatible with my level. From what I heard FZD ALC and super-ALC are less head-heavy than Viscaria Super ALC, I wonder if down the road it would not suit me better. I already play with quite a lot of power so I might be better with less head-heaviness for better control?

First 2h session with new rubbers, mix of drills and one-setters. Was the comeback training after Xmas break and I struggled quite a bit physically, so not in the best condition to fully appreciate the new set-up.

Great first impression with Omega VII Pro in backhand though. Bouncy but manageable in short game, amazing in blocking both active and passive. Quite a few mistakes when looping against backspin but I believe it's more because of my own failures than anything about the rubber. I used to have a very stable BH drive and loop when playing with my Acoustic, I wonder if the head-heaviness of the SALC is not messing with my timing tbh. Globally feels really great to be back to a harder rubber in BH. Top sheet is grippy, sponge is easy to activate, lots of different gears, easy to flick... a promising bh rubber for sure, thanks guys for the reco!

Nuzn 50 in forehand felt great in block and counter but a bit dead and unreliable when driving and looping. Not that bouncy but still weirdly reactive when serving, hard to serve as short as with Vega Korea or G1. From what I read it takes quite a few hours of play with Nuzn to "break" the rubber so I'm still in wait & see mode for that one.

Well after a few more hours, and while this set-up is for sure solid... my conclusion is just that I'm boxing above my weight with the super ALC. Too fast for me, I'm not able to control it so I'm not as confident as before, especially on openers. It's not a rubber issue, it's a blade issue, I'm not ready for a fast outer carbon blade. Maybe I'll never be ready for it and that's totally fine!

I have a tourney next Sunday and will keep the SALC for this one, but after that I'll switch back to my Acoustic, probably with G1 on both sides.

It’s refreshing to hear someone able to take accountability for their own shortcomings and not easily just place the blame on other external factors!

Well in a certain way I'm still trying to solve issues by switching material but at least this time i wiil be going back to something familiar and more suited to my skills. For sure i had better results in matches with my Acoustic / G1 setup but we'll see if it's not just my level going downhill!

Tourney was absolutely horrible, lost 4 matches, all against lower-ranked players (including one that I 3-zeroed twice in the past), won only 1. I'm afraid my level decreasing has to do with much more than material issues, but we'll see if going back to Acoustic / G1 will alleviate some of the problems.

Globally I'm really in a bad period. Feeling super slow, reactive rather than proactive, no confidence in my openers, hesitating on everything... Performing in drills but falling apart in matches, both in training sessions and official ones. Anyone having gone through this kind of difficult, "nothing works" phase in their TT history? I'll welcome any advice for getting out of it. I'm 48 and 700 TTCAN so ofc I don't expect to suddenly become an international champion, but those constant defeats and the unability to get anything going hurt more and more.

i would say figure out how to level up your serves. i realize now serves are the key to reduce stress on off days and vs weaker opponents, as well as always giving you a fighting chance. serve variations to win points at crucial times and general tactics to initiate sequence and set up your game. big mental difference if you are confident in your serves each time you get them
