Quai Man has made a noticeable improvement on her forehand in both pace and power without sacrificing consistency. Good for her. Her backhand is not spectacular but solid with a reliable wide cross court loop that often gives opponents fits. With a much improved forehand, she has a decent chance getting into the first tier of the team. 2025 may be her breakout year.

Qian Tianyi, on the other hand, may have already reached her ceiling and on the way down.

(Even if they are passionate fans, there are no Japanese people who go to Doha to cheer every day on weekdays, so Chinese fans who manage to do that and cheer with all their might even when the opponent is a Chinese player are nothing but a blessing, to put it mildly, they are gods
The venue is a special one, and there is no Chinese A team, so no country has home advantage, but it's amazing that only Harimoto, Shinozuka, and Matsushima have home advantage)

Don’t think so, they were cheering hard for Harimoto and Matsushima instead of Xu Yingbin and Xiang Peng yesterday
This just proved you don't know these fan culture. To them, Xu and Xiang are nobody, they're fans of Harimoto siblings and Matsushima, and there're many of them in China.

The most noticeable improvement for Kuai Man is that she has shed some weight.

Why? Is Matsushima ethnically Chinese too? Also, these so called “Chinese fans” were also speaking Japanese

Maybe because he's doing mixes with Harimotos, just "愛屋及烏", I don't know, and of course they were cheering in japanese, although the only japanese they were saying are their names and "頑張れ".

You can check China Smash, they were cheering for them in japanese there too.

Who said Chinese are emotionless after winning? In Wang Liqin's world champion title match against his teammate Kong, he was in tears after the match. Crying? That is the ultimate form of emotion pouring by an adult male!
well, there are some players that are emotionless when winning.
won't even smile on the podium

Some people are just like that even in real life
it is not like they do it on purpose, but I guess this is where they need an image coach to guide them or teach team.

These kids spend so much time in the TT hall, they may not learn everything else in life about life.
and a TT coach isn't a complete teacher of life too.

I know one kid in Taiwan (that is actually really good) that fits this "no smile" whatsapp group.
and I'm sure with his TT progress, the world will know of him soon and he would be the king of not smiling....lol

Very fascinated by Harimoto's serving strategy of using mostly just backspin, and then also moving around to different parts of the table. I'm going to have to watch closer to see how his third ball changes as his serve position changes.

Also noticed Kihara is now using raw pips (Moristo SP?) on her backhand. It appears this started while she was playing in China. This would be the first time she uses vertically alligned pips in her career that I'm aware of; Patisuma II -> VO>102 -> Impartial XS -> Moristo SP

Thanks I was wondering about that group of fans. I figured they weren't Japanese because I've never seen Japanese fans cheer in the same way as they did. It's a subtle difference because they were saying some stuff Japanese fans would also say, but the tone of it was just off.

Adds a lot of context to the CNT MD team shushing them after winning the final. Feels like those girls were cheering extra hard for the 'rival team.' Part of it is probably due to only cheering for well-known players like Harimoto, but I think they also went the extra mile to show how displeased they were that China sent out the B team and they didn't get to see their favorites.

That said, it seems like these girls do know a bit about Japanese TT culture. Aside from the obvious 'ganbares' they also shouted 'nice ball' which is something I only hear in Japanese context. Fans don't usually shout this but fellow teammates do.
