Passion for Table Tennis in cold Siberia (Irkutsk)

Hello everyone. I am from far away Siberia where there are many people who love table tennis and also trying to get warm:D play this sport so passionately that it makes them do their best in this wonderful sport. I just want to contribute a bit to a number of videos from different regions on this interesting and informative site and show you TT played in Siberia namely from Irkutsk Region. It is where the deepest lake in the world BAIKAL is. I have done a number of best moments videos based on our local tournaments. This clip is called Passion for Table Tennis. The titles are in cyrillic but they tell the name or the video, that it is based on Irkutsk Region Open and in the end "That's all, friends. Play and win in TT". Hope you will like it:)

lol, what's wrong with these players? From the very beginning of the video they get into hissy fit and throw their bats after almost every failed shot... Strange kind of passion these Siberians have :p

It is only to dramatize the story to make it more intense. These episodes taken from the decisive moments of the game just show how keen on winning the players are. Those who play will understand it. And by the way these were all angry bits for the whole tournament and they are not the main highlights of course.............

EMOTION!!! That is what is FORBIDEN in Korea. I need to start rolling with you guys over there...
So come to us to play although it is not well seen here either, especially during the matches where such displays of emotions like bat throwing are immediately punished by ITTF rules. Still you cannot get rid of it as TT is played by humans who train a lot, hope for better results, sacrifice their free time in favour of TT so frustration sometimes may be very stormy. It also depends on the nations as some of them are more emotional. In KOREA I reckon it is particularly forbidden during the serious process of training, local tournaments, national champs or? How is it forbidden in Korea, are there any fines for being overemotional. I remember Lee Sang Su at Korea Open 2011 was very vocal and he won 4:2.

I am talking about the instinctive display of emotion in a match, particularly negative emotion. In Korea, the people are supposed to by cultural law NOT express thier disappointment and be strait faced or smile. I get away with what I do here showing emotion because I am a foreigner and not entirely obligated to follow Korean social law. Even if you have written and enforced laws in your clubs or associations, it is obvious that emotions are freely displayed, both good and bad, but mostly negative ones.

I personally believe part of the joy of the pursuit of TT develo[ment and happiness is displaying some emotion.

I show a clip to you where I played today vs a Div 2 National player who is obviously stronger than me by 2 levels. He has won Div 2 Natinal open toruneys and you need to play 1-2 full levels above your classification to win at a national open. By contrast, i am a weak Div 3 National player, but I only lost -8, -9, -9 this time and last time lost to him -5, 6, -9, -9.

I was only mildly showing emotion (for me) so here is da clip.

I think overall, the culture of the people in your vids is not evil, rather I would say free expression centered, and I feel that is not so bad at all, even with the negative stuff.

Yes, Baikal is a gift from God for Russia and the world..:)

I remember I watched a programme on TV, it is said no doubt Baikal is a lake but it had a lot of animals like shark which only can find in the sea..sharks, seals and lobsters all could be find in Baikal, so it is a mystical lake.. :)

Irkutt, I have the same rubbers in my signature with my NEXY Calix II I modified to be HEAVY. That coach is way too good for me. I play Div 2 regional and he would be Div MINUS 1 where I play. Coach gave me little good chances or comfortable balls to strongly attack.

Anyway you've played well against this lefty pen-hold grip player. Nice block at 0.35. Do you have pips on the backhand? And you are right he is very calm and quiet. Asian East people are known for their being composed, famous for their bowing to each other or to the spectators talking about TT.

Actually, no pips. I have a VERY spinny BH opening loop with good effect using a USD $6 rubber that is effectively, a Chinese version of Sriver. This coach is too good to give me many chances to use it though. last match, He fed me a lot of balls to the BH that I did well, but this time, he was too sudden or deceptive on those balls he gave my FH to open. He outclassed me, which is understandable, as I am not in his class.

Where this coach really outclasses me is manners. Absolute traditional Korean high manners.

In Korean Amature TT, Korean social law keeps things in order how the Koreans want. Still, there is emotion, just not displayed like I would or like your friends. Koreans can be some of the loudest people on the planet and when they get together, they are triple loud. The most expression you see is joy and smiles here. Koreans consider it bad manners to celebrate too much after a point, but there are the traditional CHO monsters indeed. I provide extra value to my club with cheering, which is a national passion in Korea. When my clubmate has 12 enemy supporters cheering the enemy club player, it is obviously a disadvantage. However, when I show up on scene, that advantage quickly disappears as i can out shout and out-cheer a dozen hardcore Korean supporters by myself. I started
some really creative ways to cheer. When my club player hits a clean winner by the opponent, I SCREAM... By-ya !!!!!! By as in the ball went by the oppoent, and ya, meaning YOU, like the ball went by you! if the winner was hit with much force and won the point, lets say opponet got a piece of the ball, but that is all, then we scream POWER !!!! I can combine these and make it stronger. Then, I started the body language. If my club player hit a very strong shot, especially if it was a female player, I pull back the shirt sleeve like I am ripping it off, flex the bicep muscle, then either give a thumbs up sign or kiss the bicep. When we get a Korean woman to do this, it is a riot as the social law makes Korean women NOT be very dominant or powerful.

When I leave my city later this year, it will already be changed how they celebrate and cheer each other.
