First round underway. Sora Matsushima's younger sister playing on table 8 if you happen to see this post now

[Edit] Match is over ... Misora win 3-2,13-11 ... She was up I think 10-7 in the 5th, but her opponent was able to get to deuce. She's doing everything she can to not cry, but it's pretty much impossible at her age. Breathing deep between points with tears down running down her face she somehow holds it together to win the match.

I “kinda” participated in zennihon today. I went to a big venue (Yokohama Budokan) and became a practice partner for a guy from Kyushu playing first round tomorrow.
We played 6 sets in total and unfortunately i got beaten badly but there were a few “super play” to be happy about.

Of course serve receive was where the biggest difference of level could be felt. His short serves were much faster than those I see around my level giving me much less time to react. His footwork was of course much faster than mine but that’s expected with the age gap.

My teammate could get a game out of him

Tomorrow I can see how well he does on tttv
He lost 0-3 in first round. Not really a surprise given he was finished 3rd and last qualifier of his “small” prefecture (Saga in Kyushu). But GG

Come on Sato Hasimoto! You've got this! I wanna see a pair of choppers in the OG 2028!
There is no Doubles (men, women, mixed) in this tournament
There will be a separate tournament for All Japan Doubles 4 days (1/30-2/2) after this one finishes:

However, you might as well just hand Sato/Hashimoto the trophy because the top players will be at the Singapore Smash (1/30-2/9).

Also, the selection criteria for LA 2028 has not been announced yet. I like your enthusiasm @Gozo Aruna , but there are only 3 Olympic spots and it's highly doubtful that either Sato or Hashimoto will make the Olympic team.

First day is over, and although Miku Matsushima can only go so far, it's very impressive for an 11 year old girl to win 2 rounds already at the All Japan. She won her 2nd round matchup 3-0 and will play round 3 tomorrow.

MLTT fans, Aimi Menda, who we know as Kotomi Omoda, also advances to round 3.

That is sad, they should have scheduled it another way :(

I expected to see this couple in Singapore Smash too, beating the chinese pairs!

I'm going to have to defer to one of our Japanese netizens or zeio, but I saw this post on X

where her name is translated as Aimi Menda and that's how it shows up in the Women's Singles Draw. Incidentally, her X handle is @omodakotomi. Must be a Japanese language translation thing.

BTW, I recognize Omoda/Menda's opponent as Anne Uesawa , who plays on Hayata's T-League Team Red Elf. Beating a 17 yr. old national level Japanese junior is no joke. You can watch the replay of this match at:

https://tttv.jp/video/9705#gsc.tab=0 around the 5:55:00 (or -33:30) mark

How to read Japanese names is a thing of its own. You can easily make a mistake and I would never trust an automatic translation for that. So her name is Omoda Kotomi. Her old T-League page has a transcription too.
