Around 2950-3000 but the ratings stop to have much meaning when there aren't enough players around your skill level
I agree but not even that far, as it's based on the elo system. There are very few points gained when a 2700 wins a 2750 for example and vice-versa, and FZD, WCQ and LSD being the top guys obviously, I'd say they would not even go to 2950 or 3000. Magnus Carlsen has never been ranked higher than 2882 in chess, and he holds the world's record. You have only 3 athletes in the 2800 zone in the Spindex rating, so maybe they'd reach the 2900-2910 points zone if they beat Pitch who's 2867, but the 2 others are 2823 and 2807 only, then you're descending in the 2700s. Not many points to gain in that system.

The USATT system is good for getting a general estimate of where you're at with a relative limited sample size per tournament, but at the top level, you'd have to rely on their rankings point system.

At that point, it would be similar to the WTT system if all the pros competed in US Nationals and Open: https://assets.contentstack.io/v3/a...a39/USATT_Ranking_2025_Point_Distribution.pdf. We have less rating opportunities overall - after Nationals and Open, it becomes more region and state based.

Current ratings: https://www.usatt.org/usatt-rankings
The points system seems more relevant for the Junior categories vs the adult side.

The chess elo system isn't 1 on 1 the same as the TT system. The ceiling isn't necessarily the same between the two.

Considering Kou Lei was at one point 2864 and his highest WR ever was 20, and Kanak's was 19 (current rating 2828), I don't think it's absurd to say players like Wang Chuqin and Lin Shidong are pushing 2900, especially players like Fan Zhendong and Ma Long.

If you go by the expected win rate for higher rated players (100 points = > 64%, 200 => 76%, 300 => 85%), and estimate that Ma Long's or FZD's average win rate against Kou Lei and Ma Jinbao would be at least 85%, then the top player ratings could end up in 3100+ range assuming the whole men's tour moved to the US for a year.

Obviously not, but...

I remember watching this match and really going for Ma! It's hard with such a small sample size though. I've taken plenty of USATT 2000 players to the 5th game but they are all at least 250 points higher than me. Wondering how much Felix was "playing down" and how much Ma was "playing up" on that particular day.

Approaching 3000 and a couple just over is about right for the top 5-10 players in the world.

However, at 2800 level, which is where many WR 50-75 players could be... and 50 point increase is almost a mission impossible and that 50 point increase represents several levels and SO DIFFICULT to improve that much at that level.

That seems right. But for a 2800 vs 3000 player, what is his odds of winning a match? 15%?

Would Ma Jinbao really stand a 15% chance against FZD?

When MJB looses more to 3000 players, his level will also decrease from 2800.
that is also something to note.

There are 2950 players having maybe less than 10% win rates against the likes of FZD who could be 3000 ~ 3100
the moment you go to the 2800+ it is impossible to measure with percentages.
