Butterfly Falcima for noobies

After a 6+ hours of testing I can write a review now:
both sides boosted H3 Prov (Bs+os)

The blade has pretty good feeling as it’s a 5 ply all wood blade (koto-koto-kiri). I found it was slightly easier to return some serves compared to Yinhe Pro 01 which is a Viscaria clone but a tiny bit slower and more flexible. Although, if i caught on a fast long serve late I couldn’t place the ball back on the table like a did with the Pro 01.

My serves felt about the same, didn’t find them spinier.

Just upon picking it up I could already feel that it was head heavy. Even tho the head size is regular (150x157), it’s 6mm thick and the biggest problem is that the handle is SMALL af. So not only does it make the balance head heavy, it’s also uncomfortable, since I have to grip the handle a lot firmer.

This didn‘t bother me as much at practice but during matches i hit the ball so many times with the edge of the blade close to the table that i was seriously considering to throw it away. And this didn’t get any better overtime. I suppose head heavy blades don’t suit me, or are just not meant to be played close to the table as we know.

Now the biggest drawback of this blade which applies to all 5 ply wood blades is that it sucks away from the table, especially on the backhand as I can’t use my legs as much. So you really need to use tensor rubbers at least on the backhand. The forehand actually felt nice with the H3 but I had to hit harder to have the same quality shots as i did with the Pro 01.

I Initially tired it with Fastarc G1 on the backhand and i liked it more because it sort of made up the difference in the speed on the backhand.

Pros:
- good control
- still crispy due to it having Koto outer and second layer
- suits people with small hands

Cons:
-disgustingly small handle even for normal size hands ( I think this blade is mainly made for kids who are still developing as it sort of says in the description)
-head heavy unless you use medium to soft rubbers (<45 ESN)
-despite being head heavy it’s not suitable for playing away from the table, it’s too slow for that in most cases
-price is way too much for it outside Asia (I bought it in china)

Overall, I’d recommend it for developing kids or adult females who later want to switch to some other faster koto blade like the Viscaria or Donic Original True Carbon outer/inner, etc. but I wouldn’t pay more than 50 euros for it.

you can try xiom

you can try to put the xiom omega 7 pro or euro rubber on the backhand. they are super lightweight like 41g for butterfly size and are really fast and dynamic, so can help with the speed problem

Really, omega 7 pro under 45 grams?

yes a friend plays it exactly because of that reason. she weighted it and it was 41g at 157x150. also a super fast and dynamic rubber

Primorac OFF has the bigger FL handle. I rank them in this order (highest to lowest handle tickness): Primorac Off, Hadraw 5, Falcima / Korbel (same handle thickness).

A friend of mine has a Falcima, I was able to hit with it for just a few minutes ~ rubber wise not sure for your style, but the feeling is good with M1 fh and G1 bh

📝 Pre-Play Physical Impressions: Butterfly Falcima (FL, 83g)​

Setup: FH – Tenergy 05 Hard | BH – Donic Acuda S1
Comparison setup: Nittaku Acoustic + Dignics 09C / Dignics 80

1. Weight: Mine came in at 83g (FL). Once assembled, the total setup felt noticeably head-heavy compared to my Acoustic combo. This is not a negative — I prefer a head-heavy setup for more stable FH looping mechanics.
2. Build Quality: This is my second BTY blade, the first being a Primorac. That one left a lasting impression as a solid, well-crafted all-wood classic. The Falcima continues that lineage — it feels premium in hand, with excellent finishing, especially on the handle.
3. Handle: The FL handle is smooth, gently sanded, and comfortable to grip. It gives the impression of thoughtfulness and refinement — not overly flashy, but quietly precise.
4. Construction Feel: The blade feels sturdy and dense without being bulky. Tapping it gives a reassuring tone — no hollow echoes or inconsistencies.
5. Overall Impression: Though I haven’t hit with it yet, the unboxing and physical inspection left me pleased and eager. For a setup meant to satisfy curiosity rather than chase victory, it has already made its mark.

⚙️ Setup Impressions (Pre-Play)​

Falcima came in feather-light at 83g but felt noticeably head-heavy once fully dressed. I don’t mind it — I prefer some weight up top to stabilize FH looping.
Build quality is what you'd expect from Butterfly: smooth, well-sanded handle, tight ply construction, and a premium feel in hand.

🎯 Backhand: Is like Rekindling with an Old Flame: Acuda S1​

S1 on Falcima is pure magic. It’s as if we never parted.

• Drive or open up against backspin? Effortless.
• Arc? Low, fast, and dips like it’s programmed to seek the net’s edge. Clear the net within mm.
• Feel? Crisp and honest, like the rubber and blade are finishing each other’s sentences.

I caught myself grinning after a few exchanges — this combo lets me express rather than force. I can loop, punch, flick, or counter with a sense of freedom I haven’t felt since my early EJ days. This is no longer a backup BH rubber — it may be my best pairing yet.

⚠️ Forehand: Struggles with T05 Hard​

Now for the letdown.

Coming from Dignics 09C on an Acoustic, I struggled to get T05H to sing. The contact felt… blunted. Hard to activate. I had to dig for spin, and even when I got it, the consistency just wasn’t there.

Is it me? Maybe.
Is it timing? Possibly.
But in truth, I think it's the synergy (or lack thereof) between T05H’s crispness and Falcima’s flex + all-wood dwell. It just doesn’t click — Perhaps, T05H needs a more compact, high-impact stroke or a stiffer, faster blade to unlock its potential.

💬 Final Thoughts​

"I didn’t find the perfect weapon. But I found myself on the backhand."
S1 reminded me why I loved it. T05H reminded me why rubber-blade harmony matters.

This setup won’t dethrone my Acoustic main (D09C + D80), but as an experimental combo, it delivered clarity. The Falcima is a beautiful blade — honest, humble, and rich in feedback. It deserves to be played with rubbers that match its feel, not overpower it.

🔄 Next Steps:​

• Swap T05H for D09C ( unlikely due to cost ) or maybe DHS H8 to test tackier synergy
• Keep S1 on BH — it’s earned its place ( BFF status confirmed! )
• Log more hours and see if the FH feel evolves
