What I find interesting everybody says the top sheet is thinner, but for me it looks like the top sheet is the exact same thickness as D05 and only the pimples are thinner. Am i just slow?

shorter pips height, thicker sponge, thinner topsheet; sounds like Zyre is a copy cat of version of Andro Rasenter EC and Donic Bluestorm Z series.

Only thing missing, to make Zyre a truly original product is to increase the pips diameter to extra extra large.

ESN commercialized the idea first circa 2004...

Ironically, the patent (applied on 1999/10/22 and granted on 2004/3/11) expired on 2019/10/23. For future reference.

Great thread. How many have you managed to find? I have been digging up patents lately as well. So far I have found only two filed by ESN quite some years ago. Yours is one of them. I'm dead sure this is the patent for those few models with very thin topsheet but thick-as-hell 2.6mm sponge (dead link) that have appeared on the market for a short time before being pulled out due to poor acceptance. The other one was filed before it on 3/15/95. Although there is no mentioning of the word, judging by the date I guess this is what they claim to have found in the lab which was ultimately named the Tensor.

At one point it came in at as high as 2.6mm. Now it is mostly 2.2-2.3mm.

As you probably already know, it also depends on the topsheet/sponge combination - thicker topsheets mean thinner sponges and vice versa. Most 2.6mm sponges (Innova comes to mind) had the ridiculously thin topsheets.

Yes, and most will recall that those were known better for their ridiculously short lifespan than their brilliant performance.

Finally, all the euro rubbers with 2.4 or 2.6 sponge and a very thin topsheet - Tibhar Makss, Stiga Innova Premium, Andro Maxcell JMS and super sponge. The sponge is the only super part about such rubbers. The top sheet is so thin, it can tear from gluing, and/or will lose it's grip within a month, these play amazing however. It's just that you get hooked on the extra spin and speed and end up buying a new set way too often, just what the distributors want. These are only practical if you are sponsored and can go through them like toilet paper.

Well, it says on the banner "unprecedented 2.3mm!" Ahem. ESN has gone 2.6mm before, duh! Even the topsheet for 2.3mm sponge is ridiculously thin already, imagine the one for 2.6mm.

Butterfly took extra care on durability for the Bryce Highspeed and concluded the topsheet needed to best be within .3mm-.6mm.

Yes in the US. Butterfly Online = Bowmar Sports = Butterfly North America basically. Bowmar sports has been the sole distributer for Butterfly for 20 years? I used to deal with them in college when I tried to buy some Butterfly stuff in bulk for the university TT club.

I'm guessing it'll be pretty popular for these first few weeks. Don't think it'll be sustainable thought.

Many people are spending 100+USD for H3 player edition + booster, plus they screw up their boost and H3 also can degrade fast. Zyre seems tempting and it's almost something new too but I remember the Innove premium also had like 2.6mm thick sponge 20 years ago.
