Can Hurricane become faster without boosting!?!

Hello everyone. I’ve been using a sheet of unboosted Hurricane 2 on my blade for over a year. After some time, the pimples started to show like boosted Hurricanes, and the rubber got faster. My guess is that it is because I have hit many, many hard shots with it (at least I think my shots have been hard 😁). Has anyone experienced something similar? Is it something common? Or is there another reason that might have caused this change in the rubber’s appearance and speed? I've attached two pictures for reference. The change is more visible on the upper part, where I try to hit most of my shots.


I can’t remember the initial hardness of the rubber to compare with the current situation, but I think it has become a little bit softer as well, but then I might be completely wrong.

Yup when the rubber degrades it loses tackiness and also becomes softer, both of which makes the rubber faster and bouncier.

You can break in the sponge through either playing (mechanically breaking in the rubber) or using a booster (chemically breaking in the rubber). So yes, you basically took a while to mechanically broke in the hurricane. You are correct. It is faster after you break it in.

Breaking in the sponge mechanically is better than chemical treatment, since it helps the durability. But I found it hard to achieve even 70% of a boosted hurricane when i broke in my Hurricane through long-term use.

that’s not the same as boosted rubber - thats just the topsheet is worn out

there is a lot of talk about an aging rubber above, or breaking it in (softening the top sheet and sponge).
That is very different to a boosted Hurricane (not just softening, but also stretching of the top sheet - no breaking in can achieve this.)

It isn't about slow or fast, but rather how much absorption the sponge allows you to grab the ball to generate that spin.

If you only talking about speed or fast, then I suggest try another rubber (its no brainier, use the rubber for its pros, else go for another rubber that suits your wishes better).

I switched to a hybrid after a year of using Hurricane 3 Neo. I have never played better. The hard sponge and top sheet makes it too hard to execute good shots under pressure.

Wasn't really hate, more like I couldn't use its full potential. I played really well in practice and simulated matches, but would fail under real pressure.

For me it’s the opposite. I needed H3 to slow down my shots because I have a lot of power even as a spin orientatied player. With my T05H for example, I would always overshoot the table under pressure. H3 is much better for me. This is an example of to each their own for rubbers

Silly question, but what do you clean this rubber with? There's some serious, long, scratch marks on there that make me think this rubber has not been treated softly.

I don't want to argue, but for me it is not too much power but technical deficiencies. It's not my opinion but referring to this part, my coach always blamed me for this. He mentioned, this blade or rubber is too fast for you. You overshoot many balls. Does it me that I hit too hard? No, You must work on the technique. If it will be improve, you can use them and even they are fast, you can place the ball on the table, and use the full potential of the rubber/blade even they are fast.

About tackiness being gone after a while, I have to disagree with

Yup when the rubber degrades it loses tackiness ...

I attached a video I recorded just now to show that the rubber is very tacky.

every rubber starts to look like that with use.
even dignics or tenergy.
but only where you hit a lot.
in your case it seems like your strokes are inconsistent so it looks that way all over the rubber.

Okay, two sides to the coin:
1. I have neglected the rubber for a while now because it is time to change it, and some scratches, like the ones near the top edge, are a result of me going for silly shots and hitting the edge of the table 😁.
2. I took very good care of the rubber before that (cleaning with water only and then putting protective sheets on the rubber), hence the tackiness you can see in the video.

No I agree that when I used T05H, my technique wasnt great. But for my game, fast non tacky rubbers just don’t work for my FH. Once I switched to H3 Blue sponge, even tho my technique still wasnt great, I had much greater consistency and better spin. And ofc since then I have worked on my technique and now I can’t see myself switching away from hurricane on my FH

Welcome to the club! I cannot use anything other than H3 Blue Sponge on my forehand as well! D09c is the closest thing to H3 BS well boosted but D09c' short game is still worse than H3 BS.
