A blade between Hina H2 and Ovtcharov/FZD ALC

Purely academic at this point as I injured myself so i won't be able to hold a blade for awhile.

Previously played the Ovtcharov ALC with 39 H3 BS on FH and 37 H3 on BH, later changed to 1.9 D09c on BH. Felt the blade is quite stiff and sometimes when i hit hard, ball overshoots.

Out of curiosity, decided to test a Hina H2 and FZD ALC side by side for a few training sessions. Both with D09C on both side.
Hina H2 feels very safe, feels like the ball will always land on the table. However, it gives a strange feeling like Im punching a pillow. Put in 70% power, getting like 60% back. I put on a T19 just to try, the speed improved but that strange pillow feeling remains.

FZD ALC feels not that different compared to the Ovtcharov ALC which i was a bit surprised. It feels softer compared to the Ovtcharov but less dwell time. When Im in position and hit a nice shot, the quality is addicting. However, more often than not, I struggle with control/over-shooting, especially with blocking top spin. Similar issue as I had with the Ovt, but maybe worse.

Just wondering if there is a blade that somehow sits between the two of H2 and FZD that gives a bit more power/speed than the H2, while a slightly better margin of safety than the FZD?

Looking at graphs from TTgearlab, it seems Harimoto ALC/ Innerforce ALC might fit the bill, are there any other options out there?

Perfect way to describe that "empty" feeling — 'punching a pillow' nails it. I’ll be using that one.

H2 created especially for Hurricane 3 national blue sponge rubber. Ive tried D09C, D05 and G09C on this blade, and it was very bouncy setup. I use it with H3 national Blues Sponge and orange sponge and I don't have any problems with lack of power at all. Feels like ball can fly with speed of light, if i want.
The only problem is very low and long arc, as it should be for pro level chinese player, as it is their style low and fast arc.

how does your h2 compare to other blades that you have used before?
I was quite surprised how the H2 played. At the back of my mind, I wonder whether the H2 I got is faulty or something. Seems from other review's, the blade should play very nicely. Or maybe I was too used to the ovtcharov ALC which has a very thick core.

What you are describing is an extremely soft and dwelly Outer Koto ALC blade or a crispier and more responsive Inner Limba ALC blade.

They are starting to converge but essentially you are looking for the best of both worlds without the inherent drawbacks of the fixed material characteristic constraints.

It’s similar to the concept of at a certain point (best word I can find is equilibrium?) accepting greater speed for the compromise of lower control and vice versa.

Right now, the equilibrium(?) point of Inner Limba ALC and Outer Koto ALC for modern advanced table tennis techniques is still distinctly far apart, at least that’s how I see it.

I agree, an inner that act like outer or outer that act like inner. By accident I was able to buy a blade from SDC that is a soft outer blade and it's pretty much what I was looking for. (Although my EJ side took over and I moved on to a completely different setup now *facepalm* )

But I think everyone have their own preferred equilibrium point that suits them. Or get one that is close and just stick with it

Try the Stiga Inspira Hybrid Carbon. It feels like the best of both worlds between an outer ALC like a Vis and an inner ALC blade like Long 5. The larger head size provides the stability and control and it is thin enough for good spin feel and the outer construction makes backhand easier and more powerful than a Long 5 type blade.

What's the hybrid carbon? Is it kinda similar to the joola trinity or the xiom tmx? My coach has the joola trinity and it's a very powerful weapon!

I have no idea what the exact composition of the hybrid carbon is but it works for me. I own the Trinity and the Inspira plays nothing like the Trinity. For me the Inspira has more flexibility, control and is as powerful as the Trinity.
