Landing balls deep is good but don't get too enamored with it if you can't land 50 loops in a row against basic block under pressure - too many players get enamored with what happens when their loops go right and don't have backup for when their loops are not landing beyond defaulting to lame shots. You have to know how to measure your output and stay consistent when the opponent is not putting you under pressure and you are missing the table (or when the opponent is putting you under pressure and you can't play powerful shots).
yeah agreed. Not every shot is going to land there, but training my body to know the feeling and being consistent with that feeling is how hopefully eventually it transfer to high pressure situations:)

What I mean is when playing the correct technique, don't focus only on powerful offensive shots, play at all gears from 1 to 4/5, spending most of the your shots on gears 3/4, but making sure you also know how to rally at gears 1/2 while still playing offensive shots. Many people don't know how to stay offensive when they reduce their power and it is a good skill to have since you need to stay consistent against a variety of playing styles.

Went to coached training session two weeks in a row now and got two very good tips to work on

Last week he noticed I drop my wrist and then don't straighten it again during my FH sometimes. I knew that and I have already been working on improving that point, but him pointing it out as a single point, and telling me that I need to keep it straighter, it just helped.

This week he said I should position myself a little lower so I can make a more natural swing. I'm a good boi so I did exactly that and found he has a good point and it's also easier to project power in the forward direction.
Of course, now my back hurts. I need to get into better shape so I can use this.

Ratings got processed from the Myrtle Beach tournament and I am over 2000 USATT again even if barely. More points to donate to the underrated Texas crowd. Though my mild reprieve is that the kids most likely to beat me all came out higher rated than I did at Myrtle Beach.

The EJ Bug persists - the next target is the Cybershape Wavy. The main benefit of the Cybershape is that it suits my natural grip way better than other blades because of the handle length and wings. so I will give it a shot and see how it goes.

I played against 1800 and 2000 guy. Both LP players. with a very good FH loop. I took a game out of the 1800 guy and 2000 guy we were 15:15 in the last game but he took it. I'm noticing a few things in my game:
  • My FH loops are now landing further down on the table because I have a full stroke. I might not always use be fully utilizing my hips and legs (although I do rotate the hips on almost all of my shots which is great) but followthrough is there and FH loops have a really nice quality. Also, when I wasn't rushing, had some nice FH loops against underspin.,
  • My serves were better placement and spin wise. Not good enough yet but I've started to use more hips and body.,
  • I was babying my BH shots too much, when I actually went to 85%ish power folks were struggling a lot.,
  • After the serve, in my ready position, I have a really bad habit of leaning forward too much as opposed squatting down with wide legs and having the center of gravity forward. Hard to explain with words but my coach in Lisbon mentioned this as a first thing and I couldn't agree more. Basically I can lean so forward sometimes that I can barely see the oponenet.,
  • I was trying to step around too much, as opposed just trusting my BH. Just because my FH was working does not mean I should step around every time I want to loop on the BH.
    * For some reason as I'm looping I keep going backwards.
  • Need to be patient and relax more.
Overall happy that I got a game off of 1800 and that I got close to 2000.

Been working a lot this past week, but was able to squeeze in some FH practices at home. I've developed a new way of incorporating FH changes, something more systematic, and I THINK I've got it, to the point where I cna just focus on consistency now.

Basically what I realized is that for any adjustment I do to my form, I need to start with my feet, then go up step by step through the legs, hip, and such until the part that I'm adjusting. This is because most adjustments will change the timing, and timing of everything needs to change at the same time in order for the new form to work. For example, if I'm trying to flare out my wrist a bit more, the racket would be a bit behind where it normally would during a swing, then I would need to delay the timing of every other part of my body, or else the whole weight transfer process breaks down.

If I don't do that, my brain will subconsciously realize that the shot won't work, and then adjust some random part of my activation sequence to make the shot land. I then try to fix that during the next shot, only to mess up a different part, and within a few shots everything's messed up and I miss the shot.

On the BH side I've been using a very up the down kind of stroke for loops instead of just looping up and forward. That was a pretty easy adjustment, it's just so much easier to fix anything on the BH side given how much of a blank slate I started with. Turns on I needed to wait slightly longer and try to hit the ball at the falling phase instead of trying to catch it at the peak.

Imo one of the best ways to get better is to watch your own recordings. One of my biggest issues is the way my body is after I perform the serve. I shadow practice it but somehow 80% of the time it just feels and after looking at the footage it is off. I think I figures out at least the part of it. My helper hand is freaking glued to my body. It’s actually funny how bad it is. Pictures below of me and then one of Franz (who I consider to be a player with clean technique and is similar height and build as me). Notice how his hand is in front and parallel and mine is just glued to my body? 🙃

When I’m practicing drills etc my hand is never like this. It’s throwing off my whole balance (not saying you shouldn’t have your hand like this, maybe it works for some folks but def not for me)

Not just glued, but tight, clenching fist and all! I find that if I use my hand like I'm balancing on a beam, it's very helpful and increases my agility and feeling of nimbleness.
Imagine playing tag and trying to evade someone, faking a quick sideways movement and then going the opposite side... How would you use your hands then?

Yeah I love the tag analogy, I would have my hands in front. I'm so excited to work on this when I practice tomorrow. I'll do shadow practice with it today.

Had some free play tonight, but this time I was lucky to find quite a few people above my level. I tried to get lower, like the trainer said, and it really made quite a difference, from being able to put more venom in blocks to performing actual loopkills with security. I was able to stay toe to toe until I lost my patience and got worn out a bit. But before that, I could place the ball at will, attack most balls, it was just all a bit easier and more confident.
So maybe I can move up two levels just by applying more of this. That's about 300 rating points.

Had a lesson with my coach this Sunday for the first time in a while since he was not around for the summer. Tried to establish some movement again and worked on my chiquita backhand. I was also testing a new blade, which I have my doubts about but will keep the blade since I like the shape and just see whether I can do better over time. @Novarac23 also reminded me of the importance of recording yourself and watching video so I will shoot for that next weekend.

Back in the good old days of phpbb (https://www.phpbb.com/) there was an addon that made some "bad" forum members as "ghosts"; they could post a reply or create a new thread, they could see their posts/threads like an ordinary user BUT their posts and threads were invisible to all other members (except admins/moderators), that could make their threads/post visibla to all other users, so it was like ignoring them. How I wish there was such a functionality for some users here :p :p :p

This forum has the "Ignore" function, which is similar, but not identical to what you described. There are a few people in my Ignore List and I won't see their posts and the threads they started. However, when there is a reply to a post of an ignored user it looks like this:

I agree with @Tony's Table Tennis' comment. On rare occasions, zei0's ("Zeio's empathy is 0") posts are interesting, but most of the time they are too long and/or annoying these days.

As a reminder, check @vvk1's post #7 in the thread below on how to ignore members.

you should read the part where zeio said Chinese people have highest IQ in the world (which he is probably saying to us that he is the one with the highest IQ here)

I actually ignored list zeio for some time, until I found out that the whole thread that ignore list users would also be missed/not viewable).
So then I had to decide to see his spams from tieba or to see some of the post he started and just ignore his posts - I choose the later, but still read about the 1st sentence or 1st paragraph (what ever is shorter).

I think we need an ignore list on post and it doesn't also hide the threads.
This will be so ideal.

But then again, TTD removed the ignore list button and thanks to VVK1 that still found a way to ignore users.
I wonder when @Dan can bring back this ignore feature and maybe make threads still visible

Took me few attempts, need to put in the id (5 numbers) too.

here is the link

then click ignore
1758264193783.png

now I hope (as per mods instruction) other people will report zeio to mods (that is the problem when you ignore, you can't see/so can't report).

but yeah, we need to wait for @Dan to appoint more mods, to deal with zeio
