"Route one" type of play is quite a basic method of playing but does seem to be incredibly effective for the Iranian lad. Serve quality long, you know the return you are getting is long and hopefully weaker in this case. Then you are set ready to go to work the point hard.

This takes out alot of the nuances at the start of the point which can bog players down. A mate of mine calls this play "meat and potatoes" it's basic but works.
Alot of local league players do a similar thing to an extent.
It's interesting how uncomfortable LSD looked at the table. He seemed to be holding alot in the points sometimes.

Kudos to Benyamin Faraji for fighting hard and pulling off another amazing win. Exciting times are ahead if he can continue.

Faraji's serve looks a bit cleaner than Lin's. But it's still in the border line of legal or illegal. Most of players (Lin Shidong, An Jae-huyn) are struggling with Faraji because of his serve and forehand pivot follow up but Faraji has no backup plan yet. Who can return his serve well can control the match and win convincingly (e.g: Oh Junsung read Faraji and Noshad's serve super well).
I do believe this kid has a lot of potential and he will make more upset in the future when he matures in physical, technique and tactical

I think the coaches would want to confirm the team way before 2028 so the players have plenty of time to prepare. I am not saying LSD and WCQ can't do the job. Just that, if I want good results, I would want to have an experienced and proven veteran in my team.
while publicly, they can't announce the team, but in the planning, there already have the candidates and the build up to the OG, the full resources will be put towards the main candidates.
This is probably also why they weren't happy with Chen Meng for winning, as they wanted SYS to win. But to me, they should be upset with SYS for loosing than being upset for CM for winning.

Never the less, it will be clear who are the main players and the support will be there.
WCQ+LSD is almost certain now, but it will be the first time CNT would be sending first timers there.
3rd spot for teams.... there isn't anyone else to send, do you take experience, or you pick form?
We all know the big stages, the players are a bit more under pressure, as seen last night.

When a kid can do this, he deserves a win. Unker G approves 100%!

I'm watching the replay now.

Gracious his FH is huge. He plays like a penholder almost. Certainly he has a good BH but his serve step around game is outstanding. Great power and probably his best weapon is that his inside-out FH is every bit as good as the natural cross-court FH. He loads up and really LSD has no idea where it's going. And the serve is long so there's no real play to play it short.

Perhaps it's the style that got LSD. But certainly in righty vs righty the BH to BH game seems to be the meta. And LSD has one of the very best in the world. Faraji just didn't play that game. No he stepped around and ended the point right there. Make or miss.

I mean watch this point at 11:50 in the video. It's 7-7, 2-2 in games. What is LSD doing? This is a perfect example when you're conditioned to play a certain way. Faraji is almost fishing with the BH at some point and LSD is just standing pat "no i stay here" playing this soft BHs. Step around man. Instead Faraji did it first and point over. Maybe at that point in the match his confidence was super shaky but that was a weird point from LSD.

haha, yeah. It was a hell battle of illegal serves. Lin Shidong also used it a lot in the match. He should have practiced more with his team mate Xiang Peng (who is also famous with illegal hook serve too) lol
should have a illegal serve top 10 video

They were so excited after winning against Japan. The team lost some confidence as the result of losing 2 best players at the same time. Then 2028 will be the most stressful OG for the Chinese team, including players and coaches and executive staffs. Maybe it's time for other countries to rise, which is a great positive to TT.

I think what gets me is how comes his results are not big in other events? Has he beat anyone else in the top 30 other than Wang Chuqin?
He almost beat Tomokazu Harimoto (Harimoto figured out Faraji struggled on receiving drives, so he kept on serving mid-length to Faraji's forehand to tempt him into missing). Otherwise, Faraji may have won, potentially 2-0, versus Harimoto.

Harimoto was likely trying anti-elite tactics in the first game Faraji handles with ease, costing him the first game, but even after the opening game the match was still close and intense. Faraji did not struggle to receive Harimoto's backhand smash that Ma Long struggled to touch.
