Kanak saying Zyre is too fast for his bh says alot..but then goes to say it’s viable for advanced players.. alright then.
A lot of of this has to be taken in context. When he says too fast, he caveats it in a lot of ways you might have missed:

1) He thinks his blade is pretty fast and that is part of the reason he might struggle to do more with Zyre on the backhand. He thinks he might find Zyre more usable on a slower blade.
2) He is thinking about the ability to play kick blocks especially.

As he points out, you have to look at your weapons and your weaknesses and see how using Zyre 03 affects them. That a pro finds it too fast is not that damning anymore, some pros have used it and gone back to D05 but Kanak is not one of them at the moment.

I’ve also put Z03 2.7mm onto 1 of my Defensive SDC 7+2ply blades - controllability on BH side was easier than the 2.5mm on the Primorac allwood SDC clone. Blocking especially.
On the FH, when looping, the difference was less noticeable (to me).

Enjoyed the review but I have to admit I LOLed at the end when Kanak said
"The side of equipment, gluing, and all things related to material is an incredibly vast and under-discussed topic in table tennis"
Pros have the benefit of continually trying out different configurations of the same equipment over and over and have a lot of relatively reliable insights vs even the best EJs as the best EJs don't get equipment for free and don't train enough to flip equipment as quickly as the pros do. So in a sense, I agree with Kanak that some of the people with the most insightful ideas, even if wrong, are some of the people we hear the least from. I mean, hearing Dima talk about putting together his blade, you hear the amount of care he puts into it and how some ideas have been vetted and rejected etc. The one that cracked me up was how he got to the amount of edge tape on his blade and where exactly he put it. No messing around lol...

I remember a post on here and a vid by Timo Boll which included where he puts his edge tape as well. He really only likes the tape on about 1/3 of the edge, where it gives some protection when pushing. He said that the ‘feel’ was very different compared to a full wrap of tape around the blade.

Maybe his approach and Dima's are the same and shared wisdom amongst pros. I have stopped using as much edge tape though I suspect i will nick my blade at more spots than the pros do lol...

that is correct
why wrap your blade/rubber with tape?
it will lock the vibration and affect the feeling.
it is only necessary to put it in places to protect the rubber separating from the blade,

  • Any decent lady does not go out of the house indecently dressed.
  • Like wise, a decent player does not play with a half naked blade.

Translation: "A Gozo does not play without displaying total fealty to his master." 😂

I’ve used no tape, partial and fully taped bats, but never on 3 identical set ups to compare!!

I’ve chipped edges & rubbers, lifted sponges etc with all 3 tape variations!!!

Its not about tape or even rubber. We need to be discussing important things, like what are the most high performance shoelaces currently on the market? What material shoe laces to use. What is the optimal flex in dif material blends. How about weight? How much is too much in a shoelace?
Not enough. Need pro level shoelaces:
