Hey all

My Butterfly Iolite Neo finally broke and I just found out it is discontinued

I have been playing with it for 10 years and nothing else has felt quite right. I really miss the hinoki outer ply and soft crisp feel which gave great touch for loops and close table play

I have tried Joola ZQH SALC, Neottec HC, and Innerforce ALCS but nothing felt quite right

Since it is no longer available I am looking for a blade that feels as close as possible to the Iolite Neo. Preferably
  • Hinoki or similar wood outer
  • Soft but solid feedback
  • Off+

For those who used Iolite Neo before, what blade did you switch to that gave you a similar feel,Butterfly or other brands all suggestions welcome

Thanks 🙏🏻

Even broken blades can be repaired. If you like it so much, you can have it fixed.

ALC + Hinoki is not that common or popular anymore - Butterfly discontinued for environmental reasons supposedly the Garaydia series though the Amultart and the Primorac are still in production.

That said, you have some good options now which were not available even a year ago.

First is the Nexy Eiger. This is a new Hinoki ALC blade from Nexy that you can buy.

Second, you can get a custom made Hinoki ALC blade from Nexy. You would actually get two for $270 I believe, since the first is a prototype to test your original idea and the second is a refinement for any final fixes. I don't know if they make 3+2s but Oscar is worth reaching out to to discuss.

Now if you want a Garaydia ALC, I do have a few and might sell for the right price. I also have an Iolite but it is pretty beat up. But I could give it to you for almost nothing given how beat up it is.

Finally, Xiom does have some Hinoki Carbon blades, just not ALC. One of the reasonable ones might fit the bill.

Let me know if you have any questions. I would start with the Nexy custom blades first and go from there.

I’m really tempted by the Nexy option. Do you know where I can buy Nexy blades from Malaysia? Any recommended dealers or websites that ship here reliably?

this is your golden opportunity to wean yourself out from the hinoki addiction.

Hinoki is a product heading towards obsolescense.
Maybe you’re right in the long term, but I still really enjoy the feel and feedback of hinoki. Hard to let go of something that suits my game so well. I’ve tried koto and limba and can still play with them, but I just couldn’t really connect the same way. The fun sensation isn’t there.

Sdr. Man,

This is exactly the reason I made the switch. I was also a hinoki one ply user. Mine was known as The Monster(tm): 10.5mm one ply shake hand grip custom made by Ariex.

I knew somehow, one day I might accidentally break it just like in your case. So I decided to ditch Monster(tm) before such incident occurs. Then I have to search high and low to find a replacement that is getting harder and harder as time goes by.

Not sure. The custom option requires international shipping. You can buy the Eiger and get it shipped to you as well. But Nexy posts a lot to this website, you can email him with questions.

In the database of blades, I found these with the same composition. I'm not sure if it is 100% accurate, but...

are you showing it can still be purchased or disputing it's discontinued?

there was limited remaining inventory in US as recent as few months ago but I'm confident that production of this blade has been discontinued.

Andro Treiber Z has hinoki - carbon combo and is great for me.. High throw, powerful and the amazing hinoki / carbon feel.. I think it is discontinued though but the replacement Andro Treiber FO OFF/S should be pretty similar..
