best chance for Hashimoto to reach semifinals and secure the Asian Games singles spot but once again the China machine strikes. Rumours were that Wu Yang was invited back as a practise partner although I didn't see anything concrete.

It shows the CNT has been "profiling" Hashimoto. Will only get harder for Hashimoto but it also creates a good distraction for the other JNT women. Whether they could take advantage of depends how willing they are to cooperate as a team, which I think is at the lowest point in recent times.

Hashimoto (11) 0-3 WYD (5) (-8, -3, -10)
Just a little over a month later. WYD goes from chop suey (from Cantonese 雜碎/a dish put together from leftovers which also means grunts) to chop-chop against choppers.

In the second one, she said she's happy to win, citing the Chinese idiom 事不過三/not a third time.

The CNT did their homework this time. I was expecting CY to lose against her as I believe the previous time they faced each other she lost. Hashimoto needs to figure out some new ways now.

OTOH, there have been some signs KNT women could give JNT women a big scare. Not to forget the THA women that could drain them.

The optimism for JNT players at TTD is not that much different. I'd venture to say that they are losing their edge in WS when folks turn a blind eye to their losses at the hands of KNT players over the past year.

When I backed Hayata because of her win rate against CNT players (1, 2) despite her results against Kato et al., it didn't sit well with some folks (I even got a passive-aggressive earful from the elusive superboss apacible). Now I'm factually critical of Hayata because of her win rate against CNT players despite her results against most of her teammates and it still doesn't sit well with some folks.

The same goes for Hashimoto and Sato. I got ridiculed when I backed them because of their win rate against CNT players (1, 2, 3) and I still get ridiculed when I'm factually critical of their results against their teammates.

Anyway, the concerted effort of CNT is not to be sneezed at.

JNT women's No. 2 standing that seemed set in stone is also starting to show nicks and dings here and there. There might be 2 JNT men making the QFs here but they are not the ones the WR would suggest, which makes the drafting of selection criteria for LA28 even more troublesome, as if the infighting is not causing enough headache...

Winter's plan also might not pan out even if LA28 were to take place now, and almost 3 years from now in reality?

He didn't look good in prior rounds but I didnt think it was CYY that would expose it. The whole blade thing is really interesting, isn't it obvious he needs his short pushing game and carbon doesn't help his cause in that regard?

Congrats to the CNT, it seems they are establishing themselves again with their young players doing well.

Hayata (10) 3-2 KM (5) (7, 10, -4, -7, 11)
G1 45, 95, 96, 97, 117.
G2 36, 46, 47, 57, 67, 68, 88 KM served off the table, 108, 1010, 1210
What's with the late TO for QYK and saving the TO for MLin? What are they up to?
G3 14, 24, 26, 36, 37, 47, 411
G4 01, 11, 15 Hayata served into the net, 16, 46 Hayata slapped that FH and TO for KM, MLin told her it's not necessary to force every shot, 47, 57, 58, 78, 710 Hayata served off the net, 711
It looks like the complaints on equipment supplier (e.g. Matsushima) have some bearing, besides the TTR. Too many uncharacteristic misses.
G5 03 TO for Hayata, 13 How many ball changes already, 3 in a row?, 15, 25, 26, 36 KM served into the net, 46, 47, 57, 58, 68, 69 faint endline edge for KM, 79 faint endline edge for Hayata, 99, 910, 1110, 1111, 1311

big win for Hayata who makes it through once again through sheer determination and grit. frankly I didn't think she would be able to make it past even HZJ but she's now solidly no.2 and in good position to take the Asian Games singles spot. Ito will likely fall off later this year when her WTTC and World Cup points expire while Hashimoto seems to be struggling to find a new breakthrough.

Conspiracy theorist mode activated.

Hmm, perhaps CNT lost on purpose (here, here)?

HZJ has a very good acting career post-retirement then because she certainly looked frustrated.
Well, Hayata was ecstatic and went over a lot of stuff after that match in her extended interview with TV Tokyo, citing her win was due to being equally lucky despite HZJ's edges due to her long pips...

OTOH, Tieba users were taken aback and confused by the CNT MD/WD/XD rosters upon release, and were generally in agreement that there was a clear change of focus on honing the youngsters (consistently late TO by QYK and saving TO by MLin as we've seen) and the intention of re-balancing the duties among WCQ/LSD/SYS/WMY for Singapore Smash 2026.

Also, there are the equipment supplier issues on top of TTR. Too many external factors at play here to ignore and feel confident about those wins/upsets.

looking back at his previous match, his short push was really good, and he didn't hesitate to play far from table
