Yuka wins while dropping only one game throughout the tournament at deuce in the semis. European juniors need to do better vs choppers.
What is her trick, her casual style does not look that dangerous but her oppos miss a lot. Her pushes are a bit fast from what I see, is it hard to read the spin?

Lack of choppers to train with is one factor.

No tricks, it is just that consistent heavy backspin is a different tempo that you need practice against to get used to. You also have to read the ball trajectory and have strokes that enable you to stay in the rally when you have the risk of hitting long so you can wait until you get a ball you like. It's just a different game from the traditional topspin game and if you didn't grow up practicing regularly against it, you have to catch up when forced to at a later age if necessary. IMHO, it is best to have coaches that use pips to introduce and keep their students in touch with such styles at junior level so that they don't start from scratch as seniors. Annett clearly had some experience, she just doesn't have the patience and ball reading skills down yet. But Anne just looked completely lost once 2 shots came back. The consistency game is not for everyone.

Watched the Luka vs Filip semi. Luka started using the anti on FH a bit more - taking notes from Winter?

Also, while Sabine has a very clear-cut system with the anti - slowing down the game, taking back initiative to later overpower the opponent with her monster FH - Luka's anti game seems kinda aimless. I don't see any coherence, it's like you just gave the anti to a random good professional player who's still trying to figure it out.

Yuka Kaneyoshi has a very good forehand chop. Often times FH chop looks quite awkward in women's table tennis. Yuka keeps it lower and flatter than most.

You're not going to compare Luka to Sabine, are you? One of them has long since proven that they can play table tennis.

Long pips forehand/short pips backhand. Twiddles all the time to mix up the spin and speed. Just a rare style you don't see and it messes people up; not dissimilar to Kyoka Idesawa who will come into a tournament and beat tons of players that are ranked well above her.

With this knowledge I watched the final again. Short pips chops are deadly!

189 chops (some of them cuts, slices, the odd push), 1 block, 1 drive and one fishing shot gave her the title. She had one great smash opportunity, but she chose to cut instead, and oppo missed of course.

If only Anna would have spent a couple of hours each week playing pushers and choppers.
