I didnt quite understand what wang chuqin was talking about, did he mean that FZD was no match for LSD? which is extremely hilarious.

WCQ essentially said "he doesn't hit as hard as you". How one interprets that is going to be different whether they're a deranged WCQ fan, a deranged FZD fan (closer to the POV of this video), or just a normal person. What made me chuckle though was how preoccupied LSD was with going out and eating.

Well, you weren't in your natural state, only in your case (and mine lol) your off-state is heavier than your natural state.

Fzd is "chubby", LSD is a little above athletic figure, but it's their normal state, they have always played like this.

(in my opinion LSD isn't overweight at all though lol. Silly Instagram role models nowadays make anyone look fat)
The lighter you are the faster you are, but he doesn't rely on a fast style of play so it's not as detrimental. And I think he has bigger things to worry about than his weight right now lol.

🧐

Is there a "normal person" perspective somewhere for us to read, also?

Kanak also said the same about FZD in one of his videos. So I assume that a normal pov would be "okay, quality is not the end of all. Consistency matters more."

Yup, basically Kanak said FZD has neither the most powerful backhand nor most powerful forehand (even in his TTBL team), but his consistency is unprarallelled, so the ultimate power isn't the most important factor.

I watched FZD in the flesh exactly once and the power behind his strokes seemed staggering. One of the hardest hitters I've ever seen, hands down. Also, blazing fast, but yes, also very consistent.

Consistency may be THE factor that put Ma Long above everyone else as well.

I was referring to whether someone would interpret that as a slight against FZD, like the video was. A normal person would think nothing of it - you make little comments to your friends all the time.

The normal person perspective is that it's nothing. It's just two teammates having a chat, shooting the shit, dillying the dally. It's neither a generational slight (FZD fans) nor a sick burn (WCQ fans).

The thing that made me chuckle is that I am also very keen on going out to eat with my mates after tournaments, rather than talk about the tournament. I tend to suggest barbecue.

It's clearly not NOTHING, Fan Zhendong had a very real opportunity to challenge Ma Long's GOAT status.

He was already a two-times world singles champion, title number three was all but guaranteed... Olympic singles gold #2 was very much on the table as well, I believe, as was the WTTC singles title #4.

An athlete doesn't just retire in his prime like that. Plus, there was still a fckton of money to be made at WTT tournaments.
