If you have the legs, and the skills, and the reaction time needed, then you can BH it all which is always better than a FH flick, the FH flick is under the same circumstances, a lower % rate shot

I think the meta for receives is still FH drop-short/long push on that side of the table, few people have a good enough BH flick and strong enough skills to step around. LYJ is much more selective nowadays against whom he plays BH flicks all the time and there was a time when FZD used to BH flick everything, nowadays he prefers pushing.

I still don’t quite get that. LYJ is also a player with a fantastic backhand flick. I find that both he and Coton use their backhand flick far too often (even though it is their strongest weapon). Okay, those guys are of course much more agile than most of us here, but tactically speaking, you sometimes leave yourself open to your opponent. In that respect, I think Tomo does better; he often alternates with his incredible forehand flick.

That's how he lost though. BH flicks are weak against dead serves or when caught by long serves, and at critical junctures WCQ served half-long and long dead serves to him which he tried to add too much quality and flicked out. He did that 3 times in game 5 alone.

Lin Yun Ju pretty much bh flicked everything too. Won against Trules like that and the game angainst Tomo later was very very close.

I think Flavien and LYJ have a bright future. Flavien is making himselfe a name right now and might be france No1 in 1-2 years. LYJ is also finding his form again for me a top 3 player with his now very strong forhand.
