Sora is being given a ton or runway.... will he take advantage?
Sora will very likely be world No 2 if he does not perform too badly in the coming WTT events next month. He does not need to take advantage of anything now. If Sora keeps winning WTT events that WCQ missis, he might be world No 1 early next year.

Miwa and Hina team up in WD for the 2nd Smash in a row. I think that's a hint from the JTTA. Also, no Miwa / Sora pairing this time. I actually think that's a good thing for both Miwa and Sora. It's hard to tell because it could just be Sora's personality, but he does not seem interested at all in doubles. I don't know if this departure from doubles is permanent, but I think the early loss in XD at the US Smash was a blessing in disguise. His result in singles speaks for itself.

It will be a serious tax if Japan has no good XD pairings from its righty lefty combos. Makes me hope some Japanese righty can get their act together and play with Hayata or we might be stuck with the Harimoto siblings. Maybe they should try Sora-Odo as well, maybe the break from playing with Miwa will help.

A good reminder that what Wang-Sun and Lin-Shin do is not automatic.

How about Hayata-Togami XD?

How about Hayata-Togami XD?
Togami hasn't stepped up to that level. I also suspect that Hayata has given up on XD as a path to a medal because there are no partners at the required level. She still has to deal with China PRK, Taiwan and Korea and some of those countries might field two teams.

Time can change this but WD is clearly a better path to a medal.

What do you mean it's a hint from the JTTA? They are one of the two WD pairs for the upcoming Asian Games. What did you tell me when I said the doubles would be the main battlefield late last year and then Harimoto/Nagasaki, especially Hirano/Kihara and Odo/Yokoi attended and finished top 4 in the WD of Zennihon Takkyu 2026 after skipping in 2025, whereas Hayata has not played WD once since 2024?

Likewise, Harimoto/Matsushima are one of two XD pairs for Asian Games as well, despite my long-established opinion that it's a waste of time (here and here).

I mean a hint for the Olympics.. Miwa/Hayata and Miwa/Odo are the 2 highest Japanese WD pairs. Anything can happen still, but there's a good chance these 3 players will be the Olympic team so it makes sense to try out the best pairings from them.

If you watched the recent podcast previewing the US Smash, they said Hayata reached out to Harimoto to clear the air and make the pairing possible.

And pongfugrasshopper was so naive it made me cringe.

The team unity is strong, but the cackle from the Tieban gallery likes to make something out of nothing.

You ought to make yourself familiar with game theory. The Harimoto siblings have chosen different strategies here when dealing with Hayata's transgression, tit for tat vs generous tit for tat.

Whatever the case may be, I'm glad Hina cleared the air. What ultimately matters is that the JNT has the strongest WD pair.

You made the statement he is quoting well after Hayata and Harimoto had experienced doubles and team triumph together. Zeio at that time was asking for Hayata to publicly address an issue that ultimately is no one's business other than the players and which by their public actions had already been put behind them. Maybe Tomo is still smarting over not getting a medal in France.
