Finally after a long time Hugo has beat Felix again. I would have never expected that he would win against Felix again.

If Truls makes it to the next round Hugo vs Truls is going to be an interesting match

Jokes aside, Felix said he just recovered from an injury, so that's a factor.

MS QF
Moregard (4) 0-4 LYJ (5) (-7, -9, -9, -7)
G2 86, 88, 98, 911
LYJ's feint fade push to Moregard's wide FH at 9:9 of G2 showed why Moregard's creativity is useless against players more comprehensive than him.
G3 41, 42, 52, 53, 63 54 sideline edge for Moregard challenged successfully by LYJ, 56 TO for Moregard, 66, 68, 78, 710, 910, 911
G4 30, 31, 41, 49, 79 TO for LYJ, 711

Another shutout. Moregard was lucky to have gotten those Olympic and WTTC medals. ML and HS et al. were right to ignore medals when assessing Harimoto and LYJ, whom are in their own league when it comes to posing threat to the CNT.

You're so wrong here it's laughable.
No, the player doesn't get to ignore all rules but maybe stupid umpires not calling based purely on a whim should not be a part of the game.
And it definitely changed the momentum in this game. Just watch it again and it's pretty obvious.
I think the main point here is that ZQ may ultimately have won the match anyway, no problem with that from anyone. But it's a major shame that an umpire steps in with such a stupid call at such a crucial time in the match. It makes a farce of top level TT and it needs to be re-examined.
Yeah the call was terrible. I think umpires should only be calling it if they believe the angle was greater than 45 degrees and leave smaller margins for the players themselves to challenge via TTR. Otherwise you get calls like this which really make no sense.

To call at that point of the match when it was 25 degrees is pretty poor.

Something tells me Sora will be holding on to that number one spot past Monday.

I do wonder what Truls can do against LYJ. Lin always had solutions ready for his gimmicks.
And indeed he had them again. I thought Truls was ready to take him this time but no chance!

Hardly any sane person in China has the disposable income for a seat price that ridiculously high.

Wtt这票价变脸还是有点快 (WTT really changed its tune on ticket prices pretty quickly)

What does this say Zeio?
What change did WTT make on this seat prices?
I'm surprised if they're expensive.
I've been to WTT Frankfurt the past 3 years and the seat prices there are really cheap.
Why is it different in China?
And why so different to have the venue mostly empty?

I cannot see how anyone would assume someone will never lose to Hugo!
Felix had advantage in recent times for sure but so many games go to 11-9 or deuce that it's really anyone's to win or lose at that stage and Hugo has the potential on his day to literally beat anyone, that hasn't left him.
It was close today, all the games were within 2 points. Another wknd and Felix would have done it 🤷
But Hugo has been on top form this week so am not very surprised to see him edge a close one tbh.

Its not a farce. I think while i understand where you and @latej are coming from, I would like to briefly discuss the other sode of this. The umpire is a good umpire who usually gets that call right. He is actually well respected.

Jang Woojin went for the reverse pendulum. The reverse pendulum is probably the hardest serve to serve properly with a vertical toss. That I suspect biased the umpire more than anything else.

Finally, while the toss came out at 25 degrees, i keep having to remind people that 25 degrees is *not* vertical. Someone was complaining that the measurement came at 17 degrees but even 17 is not vertical. 30 degrees is just what had been enshrined into the rules as permissible and legal. What this has partly done is start the insanity of standards. I personally would have preferred a tighter vertical limit even if i struggle to serve with one because it would have killed a lot of shenanigans tied to serve hiding.

All that said i do agree it affected the flow of the match

LYJ absolutely unfazed by Truls' trickery and tactical shenanigans. Literally zero F-s given. Truls still doesn't know how to respond in these situations.
His superpower is that he is willing to step back and return the ball betting on the fact that Truls has sold out himself wtoo much to recover with his bad knees. Most players stay too close to the table and then struggle to give Truls.a ball that bothers him. Being a lefty doesn't hurt either, he finds the wide forehand better than Truls.

All that said Truls played well, LYJ was reading him even better than usual and subtly admitted it during the post match interview.

I haven't watched all matches this tournament but in one an umpire called what turned out to be a 17 degree toss. I think that's pretty mental. I wonder if at least toss angle can be automated and just have a signal sent to the umpire.
It probably takes too much time to process the video at the monent. But i agree that automating the call would be helpful. I also think the 30 degree standard is too lax but i am likely in the minority on that one.

He usually steps around am I wrong? But he changed to plain backhand against tomo no?
I have always thought his backhand, especiallg against backspin, is often mechanically too slow. He didn't beat Harimoto with his backhand that's for sure.
