Men's JNT should hire washed up WCT to learn how to play against choppers
Even in the era of Mizutani etc, the Japanese have always been speed over rotation, or rotation to enable speed, so they have never fully embraced spin as a consistency play (Tenergy 64 over 05 for Mizutani as one example, or the preponderance of 05 and Zyre over 09c, though there is a bit more balance now). Hard to beat choppers if you can't do this on some level with a ton of variation in placement and some quality power spins..

That said, penholders also have a significant advantage vs choppers in that their racket always starts in a way that enables them to pick up backspin more easily than shakehanders.

Togami - Forfeit in R128
Matsushima - Forfeit in R64 (Bye in R128)
Tanaka - R32 Feng Yi-Hsin 3-2 Tanaka (4, 11, -7, -4, 6)
Shinozuka (defending ATTC 2024 bronze medalist) - R32 Faraji 3-1 Shinozuka (10, 9, -10, 8)
Harimoto (defending ATTC 2024 gold medalist) - R16 Kim Minhyeok 2-3 Harimoto (9, -6, -7, 11, -5)

Matsushima, the supposedly "new boss", now gets to experience what Harimoto has been shouldering since 2018 when he was just 14. Not a good sign at 19 if you ask me, as Matsushima could be on a similar trajectory that Harimoto started going through also at 19 after WTT CS ESS 2022 and WTTC 2022.

So i have still been unable to find the interlude music where the singer sings "Let's play table tennis" with the club sound. No one has any leads? Is it a mix made for this event?
Perhaps, dj CKO_ At hOme?

Did someone write that Hayata was good against non-CNT players?

(It’s surprising Hayata is still among the core players—it feels like she’s been royal for three Olympic cycles)
https://tieba.baidu.com/p/11129213993

(I haven’t followed table tennis closely for a while—only catching the occasional result here and there—but watching the women’s team final yesterday, I was surprised to see that she remains a core player. In contrast, her two childhood friends, Hirano and Ito, have effectively faded from the top tier.

Ever since I started following the sport during the Rio Olympic cycle, she has consistently been given significant opportunities; it feels like she was competing in the World Championships ages ago, having been strongly backed by the association even back then. She used to be paired with Ito in women’s doubles, where Ito helped her secure several medals at major tournaments. Now, she’s paired with Harimoto Miwa—a partnership that all but guarantees an Olympic spot—which effectively rules out the possibility of double chopper making it to the Olympics together. Even though Ishikawa Kasumi was also a left-hander, she never seemed to receive the same level of support. I’ve heard from fans of Japan that her club is incredibly influential—perhaps that’s the reason?

I’ve also been keeping an eye on Sato Hitomi and Hashimoto since 2019—I was particularly struck when Sato Hitomi defeated Ding Ning twice. It’s a shame that Sato missed a World Championships due to the pandemic. Seeing them both break through now is quite moving; I truly hope they get more chances to compete in major events—it hasn’t been easy for choppers in recent years.)

(Furthermore, I feel that Hayata Hina is absolutely not a threat at all compared to Ito, Hirano, Harimoto or even the double chopper. She really benefited from dividends of the era. The WTT limited the number of participants, so her ranking remained consistently high. If it were during the Open era, things might be different)

(She's formidable in civil wars. Right now, the only JPN woman who dares to say she can defeat her is Little Harimoto.)

(Hayata Hina is still remarkably consistent against players from other associations, but whenever she faces the CNT, she ends up losing)

(Which of the top JPN women's players is prone to losing? Among all the associations, aren't CHN and JPN the only ones competitive?)
(Didn't she just lose to Shin Yubin at CHN GS?)
(Consistent how? In this current Olympic cycle, she has already lost to Szőcs, Joo Cheonhui, Lee Eunhye, Akula, Shin Yubin, and Cheng I-Ching (x2)—that’s 7 losses, and we’re only halfway through the cycle. Back in the Tokyo Olympic cycle, Ishikawa was around the same age as Hayata is now, yet she had nowhere near this many losses; in fact, throughout the entire year of 2018, Ishikawa only suffered a single defeat in foreign wars)

(Ito has the highest ceiling, having defeated 13 second-tier and above CNT players. Miwa follows, also with 13 wins and she is on the verge of surpassing Ito, though her performance in major tournaments still leaves something to be desired, and many of her wins are against Di and Tong. Next is Hirano, followed by Fukuhara Ai. Ishikawa and Hayata have the lowest ceiling. Hayata has the fewest wins, yet she has overcome Chen Meng once, whereas Ishikawa has never done so in a major tournament.

For their floor—assessed based on their overall win rate against non-CNT players (win rate for CNT players against non-CNT players have been included here for reference):

Meng ≥ Sha >> Yu >>>> Miwa > Di/Tong >> Kuai >> Hayata > Ito > Ishikawa >> Chen Yi > Hirano >>> Fukuhara Ai
)
(In other words, Hayata is essentially an Ishikawa with a slightly higher floor—she just happened to be born in a good era)
(During Ishikawa’s era, the CNT was too strong; yet, even so, she managed to secure wins against both Chen Meng and Sun Yingsha. Hayata came along in a good era, which is why her singles results have been better than Ishikawa’s—but in terms of raw ability, she really doesn’t measure up to Ishikawa)

(It seems to me that, overall, Hayata’s floor isn’t actually that high. In the current Los Angeles Olympic cycle, she has already lost to Szőcs, Joo Cheonhui, Lee Eunhye, Akula, Shin Yubin, and Cheng I-Ching (x2)—that’s 7 losses and we’re only halfway through the cycle. Back in the Tokyo Olympic cycle, Ishikawa was around the same age that Hayata is now, yet she had nowhere near this many losses; in fact, throughout the entire year of 2018, Ishikawa only suffered a single defeat in foreign wars)

(Hayata keeps failing to score in team all day, leaving JNT helpless as they watch on)

Seems like there’s some truly bizarrre butt hurt going on here.
These are professional athletes who work hard and have dedication on a scale that most people have never been able to achieve.
I want to give them some respect.
Regardless of who is the best, we should have in the back, no front, of our mind that they are incredible sports performers.

Unfortunately that is not the approach preferred by some. It is what it is at this point.

Thankfully for the forum, I don't have the time to go and quote and repost all the times i make the right call.
Yeah. Me neither. And apparently I’m a laughing stock for the one I didn’t even get wrong yet.
Cool if my instinctive/psych based guesses don’t go well.
Regardless. Right or wrong Let’s keep it reverential.
These are our heroes.
Crazy that some folk want to see them as evil or manipulative.
FFS.

Hashimoto just single-handedly won Japan a team gold medal. Give them a break.
The comment is not a knock on Hashimoto, but it's not a simple thing such as insert 2 choppers equals success. Let the process play out. We'll find out who makes the team a year from now.

Hayata met with a highly-motivated CY whereas Odo met with a WYD with notable pent-up frustrations.
