I'm back with a new hybrid rubber review cycle (I'm into hybrids ;) ), this time with the Donic BlueGrip series and I'll be reviewing theBlueGrip S2, S1 and C2. I promise to come back to the new J series in a bit, but doing the older ones first allows me to later on compare them to the new ones, so we all get the full info!

I wanted to start by the start, and review the slowest and most controlled of the 3, the BlueGrip S2. It's an interesting entry-level hybrid with quite the 2-gear pattern, so quite a lot to discuss here.

As usual, here is the full article: https://www.tabletennisequipmenthelp.com/blog/donic-bluegrip-s2-review

Donic BlueGrip S2 & Donic Appelgren WC 89.jpeg

And the TL;DR for those in a hurry:
CategoryDonic BlueGrip S2
WeightMedium-ish, it's ~67g uncut and 47g cut to my Appelgren blade
Sponge & TopsheetSoft sponge with a slightly tacky topsheet
Spin potentialMedium-highish when engaged properly
Speed & Gears2 gears, very slow on passive play, medium-fast when engaged
Throw angleMedium-highish throw angle, noticeably short flight
Drives & LoopsGood for learning technique correctly, not remarkable
ServesDecent spin, less than with NUZN 45
FlicksNot the easiest, harder than with other learning rubbers
PushesGood control, topsheet dampens bounce on the low gear
BlocksPrefers active blocking than passive dead blocks
Flat hitsGood, it rewards thicker contact
BoostingNo need to boost it, sponge is soft and it's a learning rubber
Price & DurabilityAverage for ESN rubbers, usually between 40-50€

Any feedback, questions, comments or anything else is welcome as always!

Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoy the review,

Victor

Again and again, you post some of internet’s most reliable and pleasurable reviews, keep it up!

The two-gear characteristic – do you think it is a bug or a feature? It sounds a lot like how many describe the Xiom Jekyll & Hyde V 47.5, for example here – have you tried this?

PS. One feedback on your reviews: What would be extremely helpful is if you would, somewhere in the end, before the summer, sum up the comparisons of similar rubbers. Having that in compact form and summarized would be extremely helpful.
