I use as little AI as possible. Most llms (large language models) are incapable of getting even simple gear specs correct. Why? Because their source is mostly random internet garbage.
I think this hype is a plague, consuming insane amounts of resources in hardware, software and energy, and the end result is people get even more lazy.
Screw that stuff

Google's AI mode mainly links back to posts from here or Reddit, so it's a decent aggregator in that aspect. If you were to use AI for your own training, this will falter if you follow it explicitly. For performance, i.e. using a camera, wearables, etc., you can use it for coding an app or do some basic analysis.

Most people I help with gear have made bad decisions because they asked AI to recommend them a new setup.

All this said, I work with AI daily at my normal job, and use AI from time to time for very specific gear questions, but more often than not, the resulting answer is wrong or incomplete so you must always check it and know what you are talking about. It's getting better a bit though :D

AI will make people more lazy for sure. In software development I can see that code output is higher and of better quality since the introduction of AI. I don't code anymore, I just tell the AI what to do and makes sure the output is good.
Of course the better you are at software design the better the result will be so it still require some amount of skill.

I'm using Claude in my daily work (software dev) and I find it a lot better than, for example, Copilot or ChatGPT.

So at one point I experimented with using Claude to find a good gear setup, but the result was pretty disappointing... As a control method, I asked similar questions in different sessions and sometimes got contradicting answers, and it was waaay too easy to convince it of another opinion (think classic ChatGPT "You're absolutely right").

I suspect there's simply too little data available on the internet that's based on actual facts, and too much based on subjective reviews and opinions.

A local league player used ai to make a scoring system on his phone which worked well. He just had to touch on the left or right of the screen and it added the score and indicate which player was serving. However as soon as one player had won the game the screen cleared. Bit of a problem as he did not write down the score and the next game had started. Whoops!

I recently had a chance to use Google Gemini AI chatbot for some specific scenarios in Table tennis.
I played some matches, took some mental notes and had some specific problem statements like how to handle a backhand punch from my opponent against my opening topspin or how to handle awkward high balls on my backhand after opening forehand loop.
Gemini suggested me drills on what I can practice and also recommended me robot drills which I can create on my robot for practice. Which I feel is a good use case for my needs. Further, it also quoted some real world examples which I can check out to see how other players handle such situations.

Cheers, KM1976
