For me 100h is the minimum to at least play one season with it, lower than that I don't go for, but sponsored players or if you can get cheap rubbers is a different storry
If you want more then 100h out of a rubber I think Dignics 09C is the way to go or maybe Chines hybrids but I don´t have any experience with Chines hybrids at all.

ESN Hybrid has av very short life span if you ask me. One my friends have MX-S Infinity on BH now for over a month and the top sheet looks like new. He trains 10-15 hours a week. But it´s not a Hybrid. MX-P Infinity have a very strong top sheet as well.
Yes not all of them but it's a common issue, it's getting better though with new releases, I think the new joola trinitys and the Donic J1 are good examples of this :)

Good morning all,

First post of September! And this time I'm making a simple and amateur friendly 101 guide on hybrid rubbers. I very much like them and I often get (and see them here too) questions about them, so I thought to answer those and see if other questions pop up.

View attachment 43074

So in this blogpost I tried my best to explain the following in an understandable way:

- What is a hybrid rubber?
- Why are hybrids so popular nowadays?
- What are the different types of hybrid rubbers?
- Should you change to hybrid rubbers?
- And which hybrid rubbers fit what kind of players

You can read the whole blogpost here: https://www.tabletennisequipmenthelp.com/blog/hybrid-table-tennis-rubbers

And if you just want the summary, the TL;DR of this all is that hybrid rubbers combine the best of both worlds, tensor and tacky, and by doing that they allow you to have more possibilities in the different game situations.

Hope you enjoy the read and thanks for your time and feedback as always, please let me know if you have any questions!

Victor
Do you have a list of what you tested ? I'm curious about your opinion about the Genextion V2C. For NUZN, 45 and 48 are known ot have a different sponge than 50/55, so I wonder if they can be called hybrid.

For my SDC Blades to come, I plan to test Dignics 05 and Helix Hybrid/Not Hybrid.

yes sir! with comparison filters as well and links to the reviews :)

V2C is in the backlog will come soonish, I have it at home waiting for a test, Nuzn 50 and 55 are tensor hybrids like MK, there is some hybridness to them but mostly they are linear tensors.

Oh nice SDC blade!! D05 is very powerful but very nice, same with helix hybrid, you will have a lot of power, jjst watch our for that only :)

Thanks for the link ! Will you try every Loki/Yinhe rubbers unboosted ? Big Dipper V would deserve a "boosted" test.

Depends a bit yes! Rxton 5 and LAC i tried boosted and unboosted but never really got to a full in depth review (pity) but I still have gtx pro at home and likely will continue at some point with Rxton 9 and so :)

A lot to test still in the world of rubbers and I want to do more blades as well, so I ll keep going!

Donic C2 is pretty durable, not sure about 100 hours, but much better than other hybrids like DNA hybrid.

The Joola Dynaryz ZGR - excellent, I really enjoy this rubber a lot... I can't put everything in here, anyway, I like Tronix ZGR, a have it on my first SDC blade, really good rubber, and I'm glad I tried it, really... I played with H3, R9 rubbers mostly, in H41, 40.5 (R9) and I like them a lot, but I dislike the behavior change when the boosting evaporates, and then you think, OK, one more week, or not, and then boost again and reglue... hmm... anyway, I really loved the Xiom C55, but the duration was so poor that I returned to the H3/R9 with all the objections I described above... Actually now, I don't give a s... about the durability... If the Dynaryz ZGR durability shows poorer than C55 - I really doubt that - then I'll try the Xiom C57, otherwise I stay with the Dynaryz ZGR, really good for me... Speaking about FH.

I used to play with Andro Chintac 575, I had it on the TTD Duesseldorf meeting organized by Nick, and I am really happy a friend of mine asked for it... I was decided to play with it until it is used, but he wanted to try, which gave the impuls for me to put the Dynaryz ZGR (from Kuba Hajto), and I love it... The thing is, my friend likes the Chintac, he tried it, and at the end bought the 525 new... You see - it's absolutely personal... But for me, the ZGR is much better... Truth be told, I also bought the Chintac 525 for my friend in Germany and he has hard time adjusting from Glayzer G09C and from R9 39... This rubber is more for defenders, imo...

For the BH, I really enjoy the Nuzn 48 so far... Cheers. ... and sorry about the confusion about friends and what they play with, LOL.

Cool I will need to test it! Feels a bit like the Joola Charged, I think Iba said it was the foundation that supported the development of the Charged, and I really like the Charged, so I'd probably like the ZGR too, thanks for the info @latej and I'm glad for you, and NUZN 48 is also very good! I have been helping a friend from the club with his gear and he also ended up with NUZN 50/48, he won both competition games yesterday against tough opponents (USATT around 2000), so the rubbers are for sure good :)
The new Opera rubbers and Joola Trinity Hybrid could be interesting if the longevity is there.
Agreed @JediJesseS , for me the Trinity rubbers can hold up fine for 5-6 months for sure, that's the feeling I'm getting now, I keep using them from time to time on spare frames and doing all right :)

I had the occasion to test the BlueGrip S2, and I'm not sure it's a hybrid. It's grippy, but not more than Fastarc C1 or Genextion. Like NUZN48, there's no tackiness at all.

For my FH, I think about leaving the chinese world. I turned my racket and used the Genextion yesterday and it was good in all ways except the arc. It's higher than I usually like it to be, I fear it makes me do to many errors in game.

I plan to buy D09c to go with one of my future SDC blade (for the "fun" to have the most luxurious racquet), but I'd like to test some 55° real Hybrid. NUZN 55 or Stiga Helix H are almost as expensive as D09c, but I wonder if Xiom C55 or Donic J1 have they tackiness. Anyone knows ? And what other 55° rubber could I try ? Joola has 57,5° and 52,5° rubbers, but no 55° yet (Trinity Intense is not available yet), Victas too.

Yeah S2 is not that tacky, but other hybrids also not, it depends per model, same with MK, I will drop thew new review in some mins.

I've also been experimenting with H3N BS as a control setup and non chinese rubbers, I'll make a post about all these H3N alternatives one day, but so far my favs are the Battle 2 BS provincial (of course) where I'm doing an in depth review soon (also including the new Battle 2 Neo) and the Trinity Charged. Very much looking forward to testing the new trinity intense line (which is just available in NL i saw)

I also really liked recently the Nuzn 55 when boosted, and I will try and review J1 very very soon, this year still. Helix hybrid felt to me more of a backhand rubber like D09c, but if you like the properties of D09c for forehand, then you will like Helix Hybrid also on FH.

You would go for Trinity Charged to replace H3 BS-like on the FH then ?
It's a great alternative but a fairly demanding rubber, my gut feeling is that for us amateurs, the new 55 intense will be better suited if it's just an easier to handle Charged, if it's totally different then no, I need to test first :D

But the charged very much has that boosted crispy metallic H3N feeling yeah, it's just that's pretty fast and thus harder to do openings and keep the ball on the table overall, you need to do things right all the time, that aside, it's a fantastic rubber.

Thanks. I'm totally used to H3-like rubbers, the demanding behaviour is not a problem. I just don't get the price difference between some flagship rubbers. Charged is a "signature" rubber, brand new, and it's way less expensive than NUZN55.

yeah it's a very good deal, especially if you use my 25% off, see the link in the joola trinity post ;)

I'd maybe get the 55 instead of 57, and not in max, just my personal feeling, but if your level is advanced then 57 may be just fine :)

Something to mention about Dianchi D:

Hardness seems strange. It definitely plays stiffer to the hand than a 40A. It even plays stiffer to the hand than a 41A. Yet the performance is closer to a 35A sponge.

I suspect I got a dud sponge, and unless they all consistently measure like this, then I'd assume Dianchi D hardness tolerance is really bad. On the flip-side the topsheet measurement looks normal so you'd need to make your own conclusions about this.

Dianchi D Classic Pro 40A 2.20 BLACK glue on
Topsheet 29.0 - 29.5 A / 53.0 - 53.0 O
Sponge 39.5 - 40.5 A / 58.0 - 59.0 O

Dianchi D Classic Pro 40A 2.20 BLACK glue removed
Topsheet 29.0 - 29.5 A / 52.5 - 53.5 O
Sponge 42.0 - 42.5 A / 57.5 - 58.5 O

H3 Provincial for reference which I have found to be within 0.5deg of theoretical most of the time:

DHS Hurricane 3 Neo Provincial 41A 2.10 BLACK
Topsheet 30.5 - 32.5 A / 53.0 - 54.0 O
Sponge 35.0 - 36.0 A / 55.5 - 56.0 O

I have a hard time believing that I measured so badly to get a higher than stated hardness when the rubber is in series with the sponge! I quad-checked that I'm not just pressing in some strange spot.

I may buy the highest grade version some day just to see how it's like and if the hardness is similar, but I don't think I am doing it any time soon.

Victor, if you do get one, please measure it if possible!
