I think to sum up Carl's post... WELCOME TO THE INTERNET!
  2. EJ dust spraying is killing off valuable TT forum contributors

Well, from a beginner's point of view... if you just got started playing table tennis, then you go online and try to find a new setup to advance with - what do you see? As der said, HUNDREDS! HUNDREDS! of different rubbers, blades, etc. So it's only reasonable for a noobie to come on and ask...
  3. Is double inverted the most viable setup to play?

I would say it like this... I know people who cannot read spin and so they swap to anti. They still can't read spin! But they can keep the ball on the table much more often and neutralize the effectiveness of spin against them. Still, I can alter my serves and such to get what i want, and they...
  4. Is double inverted the most viable setup to play?

But, how many flat foots have you seen using pips or anti, where you saw them and thought... wow, if only they had stuck to double inverted they'd be so much better! The people who are using them to cover a "weakness" probably wouldn't have gotten very far anyway. Let's say they cant block...
  5. Is double inverted the most viable setup to play?

"Masking a weakness" is kind of a funny sentiment to hold... maybe the inverted players are masking their weakness at using short pips/LP/anti, by taking a handicap rubber that makes it easier to produce spin! After all, they do say it makes it easier to hit harder and keep the ball on the...
  6. Is double inverted the most viable setup to play?

Seo Hyo Won just won the recent women's tournament, in whatever venue it was. So long pip choppers can still win at very high levels (on the women's side!). Even so, on the men's side I haven't checked the ratings recently, but I'd think top 50 still has a number of choppers. Can't really see...
  7. Is double inverted the most viable setup to play?

I think he means the low friction pips, legal ones still made for at the table blocking -- pushblockers
  8. What are the differences between inverted and short pip rubbers?

SLOW?!? Depends on your short pip. Many wonderful blockers used short pips. They can be bullet fast, especially today with tuned sponges. It's more about placement and speed, rather than spin changes with short pips although that does play a role.
  9. Current short pip forehand players?

Giving this a quick refresh to see if anyone has some suggestions for good short pips on the forehand?
  10. A Day in the Life of a Pro Player - Michael Maze

Wonderful little video there! Put it on and the next second, 25 minutes had gone by! Who wants to start up a GoFundMe for maze's car? Lol Maze was a good one because he didnt seem to have much of a filter on his answers. My one critique would be when maze was driving and he kept looking over...
  11. What are some of the best light set-up you've tried?

I think most are around 180 +/- 5 You could try soulspin roots 9, freitas blade, or any of the popular ones. Just email the sites you order from and ask what their lightest is for a particular blade. They can often vary 10 grams or so. There's your weight knock off right there...
  12. What are some of the best light set-up you've tried?

Feel of heaviness is not tied only to grams on the scale! It has to do with weight distribution as well. Having a light handle with a head heavy blade, plus thick heavy rubbers can make it feel even more burdensome. I have a blade that feels quite heavy, and another one which feels noticeably...
  13. Butterfly gionis carbon off

It's not very fast for an off blade. Slightly over sized with a bit of flex to it.
  14. Hugo Calderano beats Fan Zhendong

You've just beaten the world #1, how do you feel?! Great!!! ...loses to 14 year old, lol

  16. How to select/ what to look for in a good blade from the same blade model

I did a test where I would twiddle the blade a good number of times, and it seems just by the way my finger 'thumps' against the blade after each turn I could determine the flex. Aside from that, some handles can be different or not sanded as much etc. You might consider kissing each blade and...
  17. Question about Amicus Robot ,

I'd say make sure you don't play on the robot more than you're used to... over-use injuries can really add up, and fast with robots!!
  18. How to improve from 2000 to 2200

Yes... but the question is more along the line of, do you try to dissuade a player from their natural tendencies or do you coach them to utilize those proclivities? Assuming there is a viable style at that level for them. He gets criticized for 'giving up the table' and moving back too much, but...
  19. How to improve from 2000 to 2200

I think the OP has only been playing seriously for 2 years or less? Didn't he have the video of going to 2000 rating in a year? Ol' JT? Yeah, he's a wizard to watch! Makes it exciting for spectators as well. I always liked to watch his matches. Does get a bit steamy at times though :p I think...
  20. How to improve from 2000 to 2200

Are there no lobbers or fishers at the 2200-2300 level? I've seen the OP's videos, and he seems to drop back by nature. Kind of a Jun Mitzutani, Michael Maze or "french" style of off the table retrieving. Most the advice listed here mainly pigeon-holes him into becoming a better attack...
