  1. What is the most important area to jump from 1900 to 2100?

Big agree (I think?) -- it's both/and, rather than one or the other. We can talk about technique and mindset as two distinct things, but are they actually? If someone can hit beautiful loops in drills but hits wild shots in matches, do they have good technique? Imo, technique isn't a purely...
  2. I Need A Fact Check On This Blade If It's Real Or Not

People around here are generally way too eager to call a blade fake, so when people post a question like this it's usually a real one with a bunch of comments underneath saying it's fake because the logo doesn't look exactly right in that very blurry picture or whatever. That said...this is...
  3. Dignics 09c longevity

I play on average 5 days a week for 2-4hrs each, so probably an average of 15 hours per week. For me D09c (I use it on forehand) is noticeably different from new after a week of play, maybe less. There isn't a sudden drop-off, but when I recently compared a 1-2 week-old sheet to a new one I put...
  4. United Table Tennis Players Association

The conversation in this thread seems to be framing this as between the players and the WTT tour, which may be correct. But could this also be about negotiating with the many regional leagues? Players are stretched very thin between tour events and leagues. And as a mere consumer of pro table...
  5. Stocking up: How long can glue be stored before opening?

I've tried a bunch of different kinds of glue, but DHS No. 15 is by far my favorite for its feeling and ease of use. I live in the US, and tariffs will start being applied to small mail packages starting in May, so I am thinking of stocking up on some glue in anticipation. My question: How long...
  6. Hybrid Rubbers

Out of the rubbers you listed, the Donic Bluestar A1 is closer to the classic ESN tensor style of rubber than the others. It’s definitely a hybrid but it’s softer/bouncier and less “sticky” feeling. It’s very pleasant to use and I think it would be pretty easy to adapt. I also think it’s a bit...
  7. Harimoto seen using new butterfly rubber

This is interesting -- if it's something in the style of the Donic Bluestar A1 but with Butterfly "magic", then I expect it will be very popular, at least among amateur/recreational players. Professionals who use 09c probably wouldn't switch. But Harimoto, who previously used the Dignics 05...
  8. Is it bad to mainly focus on the weight transfer while having a fixed arm for doing a forehand drive?

IMO, you are over-thinking/over-complicating this. From first principles: the muscles in your legs and core are the largest and strongest in your body, and they can easily generate the most power. Doing "weight transfer" is simply the way to activate those muscles. It's a universal principle of...
  9. Is it bad to mainly focus on the weight transfer while having a fixed arm for doing a forehand drive?

Do you have enough power for your level? If yes, then you're doing fine according to your own description. If you want more power or find that you're lacking power against stronger opponents (running out of steam bc your stroke requires a lot of force, not being able to recover quickly enough...
  10. Andro signed Taiwan no 2, Kao Cheng-Jui

Yeah that's what I thought too, but just looking at the images of his racket from Singapore Smash, it appears to be an outer-fiber blade. It definitely doesn't look like the TMXi Pro, which has the fiber layers much deeper from the surface. It could also be some completely new blade, but based...
  11. WTT Singapore Smash 2025 (30 Jan ~ 9 Feb 2025)

I only mentioned it so that nobody would be confused that maybe these tournaments took place in the US. Regarding the ATP: it was founded in 1972 by two Americans and one South African. Both the current Chairman as well as the current CEO are Italians, and the ATP's headquarters are in London...
  12. WTT Singapore Smash 2025 (30 Jan ~ 9 Feb 2025)

Since I also follow pro tennis, I just wanted to chime in to say this isn't quite true. Check out these player intros at the world tour finals event in tennis: The first clip is from when the tournament was in London, and the second was in Turin, so this isn't an "American" thing. I think...
  13. Andro signed Taiwan no 2, Kao Cheng-Jui

Some stills from the men's doubles final at Singapore Smash. Not the best quality images but to me this clearly looks like an outer-fiber blade (plus shows the sponge colors for both rubbers). My guess is Kao is indeed using the equipment Andro says: Synteliac VCO blade with Nuzn and Rasanter...
  14. Do these things happen in the club where you play table tennis?

At the clubs I've frequented (this is in the US), the typical etiquette when there are more players than tables is the challenge system: put your racket down, or sign your name on the board, etc., and the two players on the tables have to play a match. Winner stays on (unless they want to take a...
  15. New Equipment -- Budding EJ

It says a lot about this forum that everyone is responding to the part about Sriver but not this. My 2 cents are: 1. It will be quite difficult to improve without a combination of coaching and playing against better players, no matter what racket you use. Assuming you can't dramatically change...
  16. Beginner Equipment Mistake

You have the right idea here: the goal as a beginning player is to develop technique and footwork. But paying for a coach is going to be a much better use of money towards that goal than buying a different racket than the one you have right now. A new racket is not going to magically improve...
  17. Fan zhendong, Ma Long and Cheng Meng announces Retirement from WTT/ITTF

Would the CNT even allow him to do that? I would guess it partly depends on whether his "retirement" is with the blessing of leadership or a rogue move on his part. I would be surprised if the CNT wanted him to retire given the current lack of depth behind him. On the other hand, couldn't the...
  18. Blade defect after sealing?

I'm not a blade maker, but it is specifically part of Xiom's marketing for that blade that they use a cold press process, and that's why they name that blade series "36.5" for 36.5 degrees. So I don't think they're giving away any secrets with that. Otherwise, I totally agree with what you and...
  19. Backhand-dominant players: what are your favorite tactics?

I consider myself a forehand-dominant player: my gameplan is built around setting up a big forehand attack, and the sooner in the point the better. All of my habits like table positioning, footwork, serve/receive and in-rally patterns/combinations are supporting a forehand-based playstyle...
  20. The Yinhe Pro-01 has hollow handle scales

Was curious and opened it up. Unlike the Viscaria, the Pro-01 has hollow handle scales, but fortunately the neck is totally solid. This one is 89g total, and the blade alone (without handle, etc.) weighs ~69g. Next step is to beast mode it, and see if I can turn it into a Pro-01 Golden
