  1. Bulgaria Open 2018

Amazing for Pitchford. Nice upset. The amount of wristy, side flick BH's Pitch did where ML put the return into the net or off the table was astonishing. There's something about that spin that ML doesn't like.
  2. Rubbers for Viscaria with crisp clear sound

I always found that Donic Bluefire M1 had a nice snap when you get the right bat speed and contact on the ball.
  3. Australian Open 2018

I was impressed with XX. I initially thought that the new trend of at the table, compact strokes will end XX's style because he uses far too much energy on footwork and strokes. The thing is, when XX gets his full swing in, it's a monster shot. Harimoto couldn't deal with the over the table rips...
  4. TenniRobo - super table tennis robot in compact size

I've been thinking this too. A really good VR simulation where it could read your bat and movements well would be amazing. A paddle controller with force feedback would be sweet. The physics and capture would have to be unreal though to pick up the contacts correctly. Has anyone tried...
  5. Australian Open 2018

I was hoping for Calderano to break out by the way he played in Qatar. It's always tough to see players kick ass in one tournament but then not follow up on it. Will Jang Woojin continue to dominate? We'll see.
  6. Struggling to drive the ball after change to chinese rubber

Is it the case now that using hard, Chinese rubber is going backwards? If you need a larger stroke to get spin and pace on the ball it won't help you in the modern, plastic ball era. Spin seems to be less of a weapon compared to the older game. Everything now is about quick, compact strokes...
  7. Calling all 'TALL' Players!

I agree here. I find that playing off the table, especially against good blockers gives them a lot of time to play their shots. I believe they have the close to table advantage unless I get a really angled rip or jam their block with a deep shot. I'd prefer not to move off if I don't need to. If...
  8. Calling all 'TALL' Players!

You are good to keep working on footwork. Im in the same boat. I notice though that if I really remind myself to keep the toes bouncing and feet moving during a point (especially right after the opponent hits) that the middle isn't a huge problem to cover. It's when auto pilot kicks in and the...
  9. Equipment worth it or not??

Go for it. But just say that you can do it for $150:) M1 is good rubber. Ive moved on to Z1 Bluestorm but they are not too different. Works well with alc blades. Get a nice punch on kill shots.
  10. Japan Open 2018 - a beginning of the new trend?

I was amazed by Mima Ito more than Harimoto. I haven't watched her before (I know, shame) but some of her creativity was very impressive. The quality of her alternative shots "banana split", "strawberry" were so good that they fooled her opponent regularly. She played her game, not the Chinese...
  11. Ma Long style Getting older?

The difference is, ML can back up his decisions to let the opponent attack. I think that he got caught off guard because Harimoto's attack is not only powerful, but it's faster and more deceptive than FZD. Close to the table, off the bounce, the shots are coming at you with far less time to...
  12. Japan Open 2018

Amazing. It looked like ML didnt move at all and camped out on the bh for the first 3 sets. Hardly played one FH. Sluggish movement. Next time ML will take the first sets quite seriously I think.
  13. Japan Open 2018

    Dragon mode.
  14. China Open 2018

I was wondering what the ? he was saying there when I watched the match;)
  15. China Open 2018

Some of the shots that ML is putting into the ultra wide BH are just....incredible. He is winning games these days without FH rips. I only saw one FH in that game to FZD's wide FH where I was like "wow". Most of his other FHs were well placed without full power. Just amazing to watch the...
  16. China Open 2018

Calderano coughing again. Need Bobrow's overriding commentary to be able to watch his match against Pitchford.
  17. Multiball vs off block

Hello fellow trainees or knowledgeable coaches. What's your take on drills that are multiball driven or off block driven? I've seen some videos online that use multiball (say for a Falkenberg) and since the ball is more controllable by the coach, it seems that you can really focus on the shot...
  18. World Team Table Tennis Championships 2018

I agree. I see ML winning with WAY more variety compared to say 6-7 years ago. I see him stay on his BH quite a bit and only bring out the FH hammer when needed. Will keep his injuries minimized too by playing more economical. Smart.
  19. Why do you boost?

Here's a more relevant question. At your level, does adding 1-2 kph to your shot (if timed well) more significant than improving footwork, timing, technique, touch, serve and mental game?
  20. World Team Table Tennis Championships 2018

I'm amazed at the gap between the Chinese and the rest. I can only imagine that the top players must be baffled at how ML,FZD,XX can play so consistently, so many notches above the playing field. It must be like solving the world's biggest mystery for non-Chinese coaching teams. This also shows...
