Generally the sponges of chinese rubbers are a lot more dense than the ESN sponges, which are more porous. Sometimes with those you can even do a good glue job and will still be left with the surface of the moon ;-) That said, I use rubbers like that all the time.

That could be an idea. Quantum X is a good rubber, but not the spinniest. Also, when looking for something that excels in blocking and still has power away from the table, Evolution EL-P springs to mind.
