  1. Options for Jpen blades?

I've never tried carbon but I played with 1 ply hinoki for a long time. I also tried some non-hinoki 5ply blades and they weren't as good. Imo if you're playing jpen you should use 1 ply hinoki -- the feeling is unparalleled. I've never tried Yinhe 982 but maybe it's not as fast as kiso...
  2. Options for Jpen blades?

Are you looking for 1-ply hinoki? Or carbon?
  3. Rasanter R45 or G-1, more controllable?

I also vote G1. R45 is very bouncy and great for counterspin, but harder to control if you misread the spin. G1 lets you hit through spin without being too affected by it.
  4. Xuperman rubbers + viscaria

I tried the red version of Xuperman Powerplay-X (38 deg, on BH) on my Stiga Rosewood V and I found it to be disappointing compared to the black FH rubber. I'd rate it 7/10. The red BH rubber is completely different from the black FH rubber, make no mistake -- different sponge and different...
  5. Chinese rubber on backhand

I recently came across this coach explaining why it's a bad idea to use Chinese rubber on backhand, even though Ma Long does it: Can someone please explain to me what he's saying here? I don't think I understand his argument. First of all, he says that European rubbers are much more...
  6. H3 style rubber for bh

I'm looking at a sheet of Hurricane 8 right now and it definitely has #20 orange sponge. #50 is red and #60 is pale yellow, it's neither of those. Search for Hurricane 8-20, you won't find anything because it's the same thing as Hurricane 8. Check the images of Hurricane 8 as well, it's the...
  7. H3 style rubber for bh

Hurricane 8-20 is referred to as just "Hurricane 8", I think this is what you were asking. #20 is the default DHS sponge, so they usually don't specify it.
  8. FH rubber advice for a JPEN 1ply hinoki blade

Former jpen player here. Controversial opinion, but I think Hurricane 3 works really well on 1-ply hinoki. So does Skyline 2 -- it's very controllable in the short game but you can flick and drive really fast with it. Otherwise, I'd say T05 Hard if you're going for an all-out attacking style...
  9. Rosewood NCT V II

Review by 'greenbeanmachine' on item 'Rosewood NCT V II'

This was a really interesting racket to use and I liked it a lot. I used the cpen handle version of this blade. It's a very fast blade which suits an unrelenting continuous-attack style, while still having relatively good touch and control in the short game. The feeling is extremely crisp, and...
  10. Need help with set up

Hurricane 3 is somewhat similar to D09c, it's not too big of a jump to make. Even Timo Boll said that the closest rubber to D09c is Hurricane 3. OP said they want more safety while looping, hence the Hurricane 3 suggestion. Is there a different EuroJap rubber you'd suggest which is more safe for...
  11. Need help with set up

The normal commericial version (cheapest one) is good enough for me, the only issue is that it's not so consistent between sheets. If you want something that feels the same when you change rubbers, then you can get the provincial version -- provincial version has better quality control. National...
  12. Need help with set up

Oh, I see. Yinhe Pro 01 is a good blade for sure, but it may feel less safe for looping. If you want to change to faster equipment, you're gonna have less control, unfortunately. If you want a rubber that feels safer for looping, Hurricane 3 will probably be a better bet than Vega Europe...
  13. Need help with set up

This doesn't particularly sound like an intermediate player to me. Maybe instead of changing equipment, your next step should be strategic -- thinking about your strengths and weaknesses and trying to develop a coherent playing style. Develop some serve-and-third-ball combinations, maybe even...
  14. Which foam sponge do you use to apply glue?

I use the long side of the sponge to spread the glue. You can use all four long sides of the sponge, meaning that you can use one sponge four times. Usually my sponges outlast the bottle of glue.
  15. Your set-up when you were a 1300 level player?

Ma Lin Extra Offensive + Hurricane 3 both sides
  16. H3 style rubber for bh

    You're betraying your name, @TensorBackhand
  17. Good FH rubbers for YEO

TG2 Neo is the best option imo. It's slow if you touch the ball softly, but it can be very fast if you put power into your stroke. Of course, it would be better with booster...
  18. Video Footage Safe Thread

Oh, I see. Sorry, I didn't realize that's what this thread was. I might post some footage of myself at some point. I'm not an expert by any means -- around 1500-1700 -- but I think my stroke fundamentals are pretty solid and I think I have some good advice to offer beginner penholders. I...
  19. First Time Penholder: Help me out!

Sometimes I push with RPB if the ball is very far on my left side (as a right handed player) -- this is easier for me than trying to reach across the body to do a TPB push. TPB push is easier in front of the body, but if the ball comes wide I like to use RPB push. I see Felix Lebrun and Dang...
  20. Ma Lin Extra Offensive

After a long time, I've settled on using this blade with 802-40 short pips on forehand (with occasional twiddling). For me the pips let me play faster and closer to the table -- what this blade excels at. I like this setup a lot and I use it in tournaments sometimes.
