Well, FZD was eye catching at 16 and progressively got better. But at 19, I'll rank LSD slightly above FZD, after LSD's performance in the last couple of months. What LSD achieved in last two months was truly impressive. His winning density at this particular period may be historical.
  2. WTT Champions Frankfurt 2024

Well, Chinese seemed to have restored the house order by winning both crowns in this WTT event. Chinese women have higher relative strength than their male compatriots. When at least one of the top three players shows up, they usually grab the title with ease. With WMY in the line up, the...
  3. WTT Champions Frankfurt 2024

Surprised you give him so little chance. You must have known him and his game more than me. One thing Anton impressed me watching his game against WCQ was he is the one of very few players, maybe just him, who could repeatedly forehand loop Wang's bread & butter serve to his forehand and...
  4. WTT Champions Frankfurt 2024

I think Anton has a decent chance to win tomorrow. He beat the number one just a few days ago with conviction. If he can knock out the current top two CNT members(with FZD and ML on the side line) in one tournament, he is a legitimate threat to CNT.
  5. WTT Champions Frankfurt 2024

Plus, LSD's playing style is so pleasant to watch. Unlike other Chinese top pros, he is very content to stay in the mid/long distance from the table lunching ballistic missiles from both wins, wowing audiences. He may be the only player whose backhand loop away from the table is as devastating...
  6. WTT Champions Frankfurt 2024

My eyes agree with you. A very clean serve in my view, no hidden(the most sin in illegal serves) at all.
  7. WTT Champions Frankfurt 2024

Winning against very young LSD didn't mean much. I'll be impressed if he could beat current LSD. Jorgic's forehand is just too slow and lack of killing power to stay in top 10. Most Asian top class players don't think him as a serious threat.
  8. WTT Champions Frankfurt 2024

Just by this behavior alone, this coach should be fired or at least, demoted. Actually he is not alone in Chinese coaching staff. LGL and QZJ all very rough to the players when things are not going well. Maybe that's one of not so glorious parts of the TT culture. Yeah, think about it, most...
  9. WTT Champions Frankfurt 2024

Good analysis. If you lost 3 games straight with good margin, mental weakness is not the major problem. Wang's game does rely too much on his serve and serve receive which he is excellent. Like boxing match, if you have awesome power and always knock out opponents in the first two rounds, your...
  10. WTT Champions Frankfurt 2024

Technically, Gauzy's game has all the elements except speed or quickness which IMHO is the most important attribute for TT. That is why when he plays speed monster Felix he so often is pushed away from the table lobbing or countering, quite a few his stylish plays happen when he is far away...
  11. WTT Champions Frankfurt 2024

Good to know. Amazed you know so much nuts and bolts about TT
  12. WTT Champions Frankfurt 2024

For Gauzy, who plays ITTF and WTT tournaments regularly, I would say his WR reflects his skills better than other players (most Chinese non-top tier ones). Closing out matches when you are ahead is a very important part of the skill(mental strength) and you can not use losing many closing games...
  13. WTT Champions Frankfurt 2024

I don't think Aruna's BH is particularly weak. It's true he doesn't have BH loop but efficient BH block can make up a lot for lack of BH loops/flicks, especially if you have a prime formidable big forehand. Ma Long, over his most career, also applies block as his prime BH weapon, of course, his...
  14. WTT CHAMPIONS MONTPELLIER

All three suggestions are very good. One more thing I'll add is coaching staff selection. CNT tends to over use these former great players as coaches believing a good player must be a good coach which often is not true. As matter of fact, some of the great Chinese coaches were just average...
  15. WTT CHAMPIONS MONTPELLIER

Nice for a change. We might just have entered multi-polar table tennis era/world.
  16. WTT CHAMPIONS MONTPELLIER

That was totally unexpected that LSD couldn't even take one game from Felix. Felix vs Harimoto, two fastest players collide. I'm rooting for Felix but betting on TH.
  17. WTT CHAMPIONS MONTPELLIER

Very good observation. His forehand has improved over the years but the most improvement has been from his intense blocks in the middle distance from the table even against power shots from players like FZD. His blocks won him lots of points in a defensive position.
  18. WTT CHAMPIONS MONTPELLIER

Liu Guoliang also retired at very early age, maybe 24. Top level short-pips play has to rely on pure speed and quick reflex as players have to stay close to the table. These two attributes probably peak at around 24.
  19. WTT CHAMPIONS MONTPELLIER

Poor Franz couldn't take one game out of Harimoto. Seems he has more difficulties dealing with fast but consistent players. Well, one German down, send another German. Duda is waiting... Good luck!
  20. WTT CHAMPIONS MONTPELLIER

Well, LSD is on the verge of closing out the match. I'd like to see him playing against red hot Alexis. Sorry little Felix, you can wait and let your big brother have a crack at the Chinese future prospect first.
