  1. fzd alc forehand rubber

    > Fastarc G1 on Fan Zhendong ALC > not enough catapult and speed > too much grip ....what?
  2. Best pips for chop-blocking and active blocking?

I've recently become enamored with the short pips penhold style, but there's so much different equipment with so many different properties (even more than inverted rubber, I think) and I don't know where to start. To anyone who has played with pips, I would appreciate your advice. I am also open...
  3. Voodoo Classic

    Voodoo Classic

The Neottec Voodoo Classic is an all-wood, 5-ply offensive blade. It is a medium fast, flexible blade suited to attacking strategies that rely heavily on spinning strokes. The player is given a good amount of feeling during the short game, and this blade provides the power for top-spin attacking...
  4. Is there a comprehensive review of Stiga Mantra Pro M?

I'm gonna post a review of Mantra Pro H and XH soon. I really liked both of these rubbers.
  5. Why Truls Möregårdh was so good?

He did land a snake in today's match, though :P
  6. Why Truls Möregårdh was so good?

It seemed to me like Truls was often able to disturb his opponents' confidence by giving them a strange, uncomfortable ball (chop block, sidespin, etc) every now and then. Lots of spin variation, and most modern high-level players don't play with that much spin variation.
  7. Remove old glue or just keep it?

If the glue on the rubber has air bubbles, you should remove it. Otherwise it doesn't matter, but add one more layer on top of what's there. You should remove glue from your blade.
  8. STIGA Mantra M or Butterfly Rozena (BH)

This sounds like a good plan to me Are you using H3 or H3 Neo? H3 is slower with a lower arc
  9. Hinoki blades with Chinese rubbers?

I'd say if you're going to try T05, make it T05 Hard. I tried both on my DS90 and T05 was quite hard to control in the short game. I think soft rubber + soft blade makes for a very reactive setup. My favorites for 1-ply hinoki are H3 Neo, Rasanter R48, and Mantra Pro XH. But my 1-ply hinoki is...
  10. Felix Lebrun should play short pips on FH

That was also my feeling after the first pips session. Very confusing. I think you need at least a few weeks to get used to it. After 2 weeks I am only beginning to see some improvements. Honestly I should probably stop but I am too obsessed with trying to play like Liu Guoliang and He Zhiwen :D
  11. Felix Lebrun should play short pips on FH

There's definitely a learning period where you will play worse. Pips doesn't work for everyone, but I think it can work for people who are already aggressive attackers who take the ball directly off the bounce. Taking the ball directly off the bounce is important for pips hitting -- if you let...
  12. STIGA Mantra M or Butterfly Rozena (BH)

I've had two sheets of Mantra Pro XH for almost a year and I think they're holding up quite well. They lost a bit of their speed, but it's not as if they're tearing or unplayable or anything. I'm still able to create fast, spinny shots with it. Honestly, I prefer my rubber on the slower side...
  13. Upgrading rubber on existing blade

If you're still a beginner, this is a pretty good setup. You could replace both of your rubbers with Yasaka Mark V (an old rubber which still survives because it's really good) and you would have a pretty similar setup. The progression of technology has gone in a few different directions: 1...
  14. STIGA Mantra M or Butterfly Rozena (BH)

Rozena did not feel very forgiving to me. In the short game especially, Rozena is extremely sensitive to spin. Returning a short spinny serve is very difficult. I'd recommend Mantra. If you're using Blutenkirsche right now, this is already harder than Rozena and Mantra M. If you want something...
  15. 388D-1

    388D-1

Dawei 388D-1 is one of the most popular long pimpled rubbers. The 388D-1 is the new and improved version of the standard 388D, and its long pimples help absorb momentum from incoming attack shots. The rebound off of the 388D-1 creates knuckle and wobble balls for your opponent. The pips product...
  16. 802-40 Mystery III

    802-40 Mystery III

The most popular short pips rubber in the Friendship collection due to its durability, its spin capabilities, and value for the price. This rubber has a harder sponge than the regular 802-40 pips. This results in more spin reversal, and more of a "knuckleball" effect than regular 802-40. Sponge...
  17. 802-40

    802-40

The most popular short pips rubber in the Friendship collection due to its durability, its spin capabilities, and value for the price. This is a distinct rubber from 802-40 Mystery III, and it differs from the Mystery III version by having a much softer sponge -- around 35°.
  18. Felix Lebrun should play short pips on FH

He would play with a much more effective attacking style. In addition to being really cool, I think there are a number of reasons to think this is a good idea. 1. Felix's backhand is already his main looping weapon, and he tends to only hit with his forehand when he is forced to. When Felix is...
  19. First Hurricane attempt

Tension can increase hardness. The sponge material itself may become softer, but when you increase the tension it can become harder. It's like the reason that a pumped tire is harder than a flat tire. With any booster there are several processes that make the sponge both harder and softer. It...
  20. Hinoki blades with Chinese rubbers?

Yeah unfortunately T05 Hard is really bouncy. I find that you can manage the block and touch game by playing with a very loose wrist. You can make a powerful stroke with your body -- focus on feeling the ball with your core/body, but keeping your wrist very limp and let your wrist react to the...
