    1-sided penhold is cool
  2. Jpen TPB tips

Oh yeah lol I thought you were talking about the other player in the first video, who is also playing TPB. I think that Tomoike is suppinating his wrist quite extremely. You can see in the photo above that the racket is angled down quite a lot. The jpen blade assists with this, because it...
  3. Jpen TPB tips

He's playing with pips on FH/TPB. Looks like black is long pips and red is short pips. EDIT: Oh you're talking about the other player lmao. The pips player has a fascinating style, and also amazing TPB...
  4. First Hurricane attempt

Without booster the touch and control is incredible. If you can't hit into the sponge you're probably just too weak. 39 degrees NEO sponge is not going to be difficult to hit into.
  5. First Hurricane attempt

Try first unboosted, and see how it feels. You can boost the rubber later, but you can't unboost it. Plus, NEO version is already boosted in the factory. I think outer composition feels better with Chinese rubber, and inner composition feels better with ESN rubber. Power will be better with...
  6. Is YSE + Rakza 7 too fast for beginner?

Only if you're using tensor rubbers
  7. Is YSE + Rakza 7 too fast for beginner?

Strongly disagree. Chinese equipment and Chinese technique (which are strongly linked to each other) are a major reason for China's dominance I'm not talking about Chinese national team. I'm talking about your average Chinese players, who also have the best average level in the world Injury...
  8. Is YSE + Rakza 7 too fast for beginner?

I think you're being sarcastic but honestly it is a pretty good idea. Chinese players learn how to play with dead sticky non-tensor rubbers, and Chinese players are the best in the world. Deadness will teach the beginner to generate their own power using the legs and hips, rather than relying...
  9. Is YSE + Rakza 7 too fast for beginner?

I think that's correct. Rozena and Rakza 7 both feel very bouncy to me. Rakza Z is more muted (I guess because of the tacky topsheet and hard sponge), but Rakza Z doesn't really belong in the Rakza series imo.
  10. Is YSE + Rakza 7 too fast for beginner?

Yeah that's fair. I guess they want to get people hooked on tensor rubbers early :p
  11. When to change equipment?

Rakza Z is your best option if you're gonna do a hybrid rubber -- it's slower than other hybrid rubbers. Yinhe Big Dipper is another good option. But I think the best option is to try something like Hurricane 3. It will give you an option to hit harder, and it won't be uncontrollable. H3...
  12. Is YSE + Rakza 7 too fast for beginner?

I'm not sure I'd call Rozena a "beginner rubber", especially since it is tensioned. It's certainly easier to control than Tenergy, but personally I think that the springiness from tensioned rubber is bad for learning.
  13. Is YSE + Rakza 7 too fast for beginner?

Not sure I'd say Mark V is a bad idea, but I would agree with some of these criticisms. Mark V will teach you to play in a very different way than ESN tensor rubbers. If your girlfriend wants to get good at playing with tensor rubbers, then Mark V is probably not the best introduction. However...
  14. Is YSE + Rakza 7 too fast for beginner?

Give her a harder rubber, non-tensor. Friendship Battle II is a good place to start. Mark V is another good option. Stay away from tensor rubbers.
  15. Playing the "Chinese Grandpa" style as a 25-year-old

There's this old guy at my club who plays 1-sided penhold with pips, and it really amazes me how he is able to give me very difficult balls with very little effort. Eventually I decided I will try this configuration and see what I can do with it. I got a sheet of Friendship RITC 802-40 pips for...
  16. Advice on DHS rubbers.

Yeah there is going to be a different feeling for sure. With H3 the throw angle is very low so you have to hit under the ball instead of hit on top of the ball. But it looks like you are pretty strong, so you shouldn't have an issue getting enough power with H3. And if you have enough power, the...
  17. Advice on DHS rubbers.

I think neo has enough booster from the factory. If it's still too soft for you, try the non-neo version. Or you can try 40-41 degrees. If you get non-neo version and it feels too dead, you can add one layer of glue, then one layer of Falco Tempo Long, and then one more layer of glue. 39...
  18. Vega China VM

Review by 'greenbeanmachine' on item 'Vega China VM'

I tried a sheet of red Vega China on the backhand side of a penhold Neottec Voodoo Classic. It plays mostly like an unboosted Hurricane 3, with a bit more speed on certain shots. The differences are: 1. You really need to dig into the sponge to get a spinny ball. Brushing is not great for...
  19. Advice on DHS rubbers.

Boosted H3 is a good choice. I would also recommend Stiga Mantra XH, or Tenergy 05 Hard. They have a similar feeling to H3, but they're a bit springier and take less strength to activate the power. Plus, they'll last longer than a boosted rubber.
  20. Does stretching rubber alter the throw angle?

I have experimented with this with tacky Chinese rubbers. I also get the sense that it lowers throw angle -- this might be because the ball has less contact time with the sticky rubber, and so you can't lift the ball as much. Maybe tensor rubbers behave differently when you stretch them, idk...
