It's not only about the wood species itself, but how it was cut, dried, etc... As I've explained before. Some blades don't require sealing, but it's not always easy to judge.

Stabilized wood is very heavy compared to natural wood, but it still doesn't have enough mass for that purpose, it would need to be something heavier or they would be very big.

The outer layer is Ayous, not koto, and the core seems to be slightly thicker. That's why these blades are thicker but slower and lighter.
