  1. Need advice on playing distance from table

How close is close? Even close to the table players play usually in the 1-2m distance from the table once in a rally (counting feet from table)
  2. Footwork..

Also note how for both players even when they're not moving their feet their legs are constantly adjusting. That's what I've realized with footwork practice, that we even if the feet are not moving you're constantly shifting your center of gravity left/right, up/down, forward/back to adjust to...
  3. half long soft / less spin pushes! Absolutely hate'em MF'ers!

It's a difficult ball to attack strongly because there's neither speed nor spin for you to borrow. If it's not high, then hitting/driving is tough too because of the flatter trajectory. One way to deal with it is just let it fall a bit and then use a small motion to brush loop, then you can...
  4. Impressive match vs. Pips

Impressive match of a double inverted player against a high level twiddling SP/LP TPB player. Unfortunately for the TPB player his opponent is the student of a very high level pips player (almost 2500 in the Chinese ratings system), so he's very well trained against pips and put on a masterclass.
  5. Does the color of the table matters a lot?

Agree with the above, the table color doesn't really matter. Lighting matters more, table friction matters more, and even wall color matters more. If you're playing with white balls in a place with white walls nearby you can lose track of the ball much easier, for example.
  6. I touch the table

Uhh, at my club it happens rather often. Also, where are you playing that you have such dusty tables? None of the numerous clubs I've played at have dust on the table. Dust increases friction and affects the ball, you need to wipe the table clean if that's happening.
  7. China Smash 2024, Beijing, 9/26-10/6

Sure, anything's possible, but his recent history is that he often gives up on the set when he's down by a lot. He's done that quite often against WCQ in the past couple years, for example.
  8. China Smash 2024, Beijing, 9/26-10/6

That stadium is like 99% ML fans, I think they would've been ecstatic with a 4-0 victory for ML lol.
  9. China Smash 2024, Beijing, 9/26-10/6

Lol, ML said he likes that the fans today aren't all girls, that there were many men there too, made him feel more comfortable.
  10. China Smash 2024, Beijing, 9/26-10/6

Congrats to LSD, what a comeback! Think ML just ran out of gas a bit at the end, but what nerves to mount a comeback against the GOAT in game 7!
  11. China Smash 2024, Beijing, 9/26-10/6

Look like ML is just conserving his energy for game 7 when he gets down by a few points in games 5 and 6.
  12. China Smash 2024, Beijing, 9/26-10/6

He actually wins his fair share in the short push game, his BH opening loop is his bread winner thus far. He's scored just about as many off his BH flick as he's lost in receiving long services.
  13. China Smash 2024, Beijing, 9/26-10/6

ML caught him with 2 straight aces with long serves, that's what's keeping him from being too aggressive with receives.
  14. China Smash 2024, Beijing, 9/26-10/6

Ma Long's FH isn't nearly as on point as yesterday, but he's using great tactics to keep LSD from playing his game. A lot of short game to wrong foot LSD, left when he's expecting right, short even if floaty when he's expecting long and fast, long and even if floaty when he's expecting short...
  15. China Smash 2024, Beijing, 9/26-10/6

You're allowed to change if there's damage, he must've damaged it at some point of time. It was at the start of the 3rd set.
  16. China Smash 2024, Beijing, 9/26-10/6

Interesting, ML just changed his racket.
  17. China Smash 2024, Beijing, 9/26-10/6

LSD showing what many of the younger Chinese players are missing these days, a short game that troubles even ML. ML manages to change up his receives and claw back a set though, now it's a best of 5.
  18. China Smash 2024, Beijing, 9/26-10/6

The women's finals was kinda meh. Neither lady seemed to be in her best form, though WMY was in worse form, seems to have missed all her BH down the line shots. Hoping for some fireworks in the men's finals.
  19. China Smash 2024, Beijing, 9/26-10/6

I think each approach has its pros and cons. Fundamentals are boring and time consuming, most kids even those with great potential won't do enough of it if left to their own devices. However, the parents/guardians can easily pick the wrong field to make the kid train in. Who knows how many...
