  1. 27th ITTF-Asian Table Tennis Championships 2024, Astana, 10/7-13

Her ability to demolish Batra and Ayhika while Miwa struggled makes me believe that she'll have a chance against HZJ and Kim. Of course it won't be easy since those two have better forehands and variations.
  2. 27th ITTF-Asian Table Tennis Championships 2024, Astana, 10/7-13

Saddest person today is Gozo? Double inverted Miwa losing to pips is a double whammy. Nevertheless, one gold and two silvers is a historically amazing achievement in itself. Between He Zhoujia, Mukherjee, Kim Kum Yong, safe to say that Miwa still isn't comfortable against long pips/anti. Wonder...
  3. 27th ITTF-Asian Table Tennis Championships 2024, Astana, 10/7-13

JJH touches on KNT and North Korea team's relations, saying that they used to be close and even hung out in the same hotel rooms together, but don't even greet each other anymore since North/South relations became tense after covid. She also gives praise to SYB for being grounded despite her...
  4. 27th ITTF-Asian Table Tennis Championships 2024, Astana, 10/7-13

Ito showed that vs. Kim Nayeong form again at 5-9 down in game 3. But 2 serve errors in a row, and the constant looking at her pips after errors have got to go. Not sure if she can do it unless she radically changes her training regime and mindset. Step 1 is finding a coach. On a somewhat...
  5. 27th ITTF-Asian Table Tennis Championships 2024, Astana, 10/7-13

Ito still showing impatience when struggling in a match that she 'should win'. Nearly blew her best shot at an ATTC medal there. Anyone knows where we can watch live/replays of CNT matches? Who would've thought that there would be more KNT players than CNT and JNT in the WS quarterfinals...
  6. 27th ITTF-Asian Table Tennis Championships 2024, Astana, 10/7-13

Yup, her best result was that victory against Chen Meng (something that Hirano, Ito, and Miwa haven't done). I also bashed her for that horrible performance in the Olympic finals that cost Japan the match. I mean, you could also say that Hirano *only* beat WYD and CXT in both team finals. The...
  7. 27th ITTF-Asian Table Tennis Championships 2024, Astana, 10/7-13

Hayata: First ever WTTC bronze + Asian Games silver defeating core CNT player in 40/50+ years something something. But nobody gives her credit because her opponent was Wang Yidi, even though Hayata was only the 2nd JNT player (maybe non-CNT too, can't be bothered to look it up) to defeat WYD in...
  8. 27th ITTF-Asian Table Tennis Championships 2024, Astana, 10/7-13

Similar to Ayhika Mukherjee, Hirano is just better at team events than singles. I didn't expect her to go far and this early loss proves it once more.
  9. 27th ITTF-Asian Table Tennis Championships 2024, Astana, 10/7-13

https://www.hankyung.com/article/202309220139Y Suh Hyowon did ask about Kim Song I at the Asian Games, but if even SK media doesn't know it's hard to tell given how isolated NK is. To be fair, Kim Song I didn't strike me as someone who had significantly good results outside of that spectacular...
  10. Butterfly... when?

Butterfly is working out Hello Kitty exclusivity with Hirano's lawyers so that you can get your Miwa Kitty blade.
  11. 27th ITTF-Asian Table Tennis Championships 2024, Astana, 10/7-13

North Korean women will fight to prove that India's bronze medal is rightfully theirs today. Cha Su Yong v. Ayhika Mukherjee 4pm Table 7 (winner faces Ito in R.32) Kim Kim Yong v. Sutirtha Mukherjee 5pm Table 8 With SYS out of WS, Suh Hyo Won, Odo, Ito, and Cha Su Yong have a chance at...
  12. 27th ITTF-Asian Table Tennis Championships 2024, Astana, 10/7-13

CXT and Hirano were meant to play the same role. For CXT's case, she needed to shut down Ito/Hirano in the likely scenario that WYD lost. Hirano simply played her role better.
  13. 27th ITTF-Asian Table Tennis Championships 2024, Astana, 10/7-13

SYS is still the best, probably in a bit of a slump after Olympic silver. It's her teammates who didn't step up when needed. I'm still amazed by CNT's faith in WYD. Her team event record is worse than Liu Shiwen and Guo Yue.
  14. 27th ITTF-Asian Table Tennis Championships 2024, Astana, 10/7-13

Does anyone know if the girls get any ranking points for this win? None for Ma Lin for sure, fans are already calling for him to step down. Singles is a different ball game, but hopefully the win gives them all the belief to go further.
  15. 27th ITTF-Asian Table Tennis Championships 2024, Astana, 10/7-13

Congratulations gold medalists Japan! Hirano, CM, and WMY may have just extended their careers. Asian champs atmosphere has always felt rather muted from what I can recall, apart from 2017. The weird audio this edition probably contributes to that perception too.
  16. 27th ITTF-Asian Table Tennis Championships 2024, Astana, 10/7-13

Also because China sent their D and E players. Regardless, Miwa and Hirano have already achieved breakthroughs though for winning their first team tie against CNT and first match against CXT respectively. Miwa is playing amazing. For me she's already No.1 in Japan in terms of technique.
  17. 27th ITTF-Asian Table Tennis Championships 2024, Astana, 10/7-13

She needs to play without fear + proper training + new variations. Everyone knows her patterns by now. Today she only fulfilled the first criteria.
  18. 27th ITTF-Asian Table Tennis Championships 2024, Astana, 10/7-13

Ito playing the best I've seen in a long time. But it's not enough. She just doesn't have the tools to close out points against SYS' quality.
  19. 27th ITTF-Asian Table Tennis Championships 2024, Astana, 10/7-13

That was too close. Thankfully Miwa was able to find WYD's forehand again in time.
